Water borne

I use a water borne product found only in Richmond, VA (as far as I know) called Southern Tradition. I get it from my supplier, Pressure Works Inc.

The beautiful thing about it is that I can wash a deck in the morning and finish the job that afternoon ..job completed!!

Last as long if not longer than any oil based product I've ever tried and has no linseed oil like the Flood products that actually promote the growth of mildew.

Comes in Clear, Honey Gold, Heartwood, Cedar, Redwood, Walnut, and Driftwood.

Very affordable too. Less than $100 for 5 gallons.

TWP 100 Series
Woodrich stains
Flood CWF-UV5 (pro)
Olympic - Green label oil toner

We won't touch a water product - fail every time :( AND NEVER ACRYLIC!!! (except Flood Spa n Deck and that is not for the weak hearted to use)

Hi Celest, :wave3:

I know that you are an extremely well respected source of knowledge in the industry, that's for sure. I had doubts about any water product too, but was soooo glad I found this product. If you ever have a chance to test it out on something - like a swatch or one board on a deck or whatever, I think you may be pleasantly surprised with it. I have seen it out perform CWF-UV in every tint, as well as out perform Olympic and Behr. Not to never say never, but I've not seen it fail "sooner" than the competition.

When I can, I'll post some pics of some of the decks I've done with it and try to post some that have some age to the finish as well to document how it holds up. In the meantime, here is a link to the place who helped me get started here in Richmond. I didn't know about forums back then, so they were a world of help to me when I was a true newbie.

I agree with the Oly Max green label Toner, very user friendly. The Armstrong Clark lineup is very similar to the Oly Max Toner, with more color choices. The AC semi-solids are awesome, my customers love them. In comparable colors, the OM Toner and AC semi transparent are almost identical in appearance. My experiences are on PT Pine decks and the occasional cedar fence.

John,

What method to you use to apply Olympic? I apply my deck sealers with an airless, but found that Olympic atomized W-A-Y too much.

$15 pump-ups wherever possible. Usually, I'll use a foam 6" roller and a 2" or 3" brush. Roll the spindles/rails and spray the floor. I've found that spraying the floor allows me to get between the boards without getting the "drips".

How long with the Woodrich Timber Oil last on a deck? Does it require two coats usually?

Thanks..

Longevity of the stain depends on the age of the wood, proper prep, how much or little exposure it gets, the trees or moisture it is affected by - the list goes on.

Woodrich Timber Oil is comparable to the parafinic oils on the market (Ready Seal) Some wood will take two coats, some one, some three. We put two coats (wet on wet) on new cedar with massive sun exposure and were very very pleased at the color retention we had at over a year.

Woodrich Timber Oil..

Okay, thanks. I knew there would be a ton of variables. Just trying to get a comparison to the longevity I've seen over the years with CWF-UV.

In Central VA it usually lasts two years on average and I have customers set up to clean & re-apply every other year.

I like the look of the Woodrich and am looking for a better alternative for my customers.

Thanks!

If you're used to using CWF-UV, you will LOVE either AC or Oly Max Toner! It's almost impossible to leave a lap mark - even in direct sun! The only product that Flood makes (that I've seen or heard of) that actually performs as expected is their stripper. (Anyone need some Restora? :rotflmao1:)

When you say CWF-UV, is that ALL the can says? CWF-UV doesn't last for poop - it's the "homeowner" version. CWF-UV5 is the product Flood developed for pros and it is COMPLETELY different than regular CWF-UV. There is no comparison with it and anything else we've really used.

Yep, it was regular old CWF-UV. I saw 2.5 gal. buckets of CWF-UV5 next to it. Is UV5 the same as the UV5 Pro you mentioned earlier in this thread? Is the viscosity the same as the homeowner CWF? What makes it better in addition to longevity??

Hi John, I've tried using this on a fence and it literally evaporated before my eyes and left no trace that I'd just put in on. I tried the semi-trans also with the same result. Now, I was applying with an airless which may have been the problem, not sure. I know you stated you apply it to decks with a pump-up. Is airless not recommended for Oly Max???? Can you advise? Thanks, Mark
