What Would U Do?

Well, the fire season has started early this year. We had 3 today. One is out and two are still burning. One of these has burned 10,000 acres and the other has burned 1000 acres and 30-32 homes. Neither is currently under control tonight. The winds are supposed to be milder then the 60mph winds in the area today. Doesn't look good.

A good customer lives in the area where the homes burnt. So he may of lost his house today and everything in it minus what could be removed in 15 minutes or so. THANKFULLY I HAVE NEVER GONE THROUGH THIS!!

I do work every month for his business, bill at the end of each month, and give him thirty days to pay each invoice.

If he did lose his house, I was thinking about invoicing at the end of April for March's work. This months invoice is one of the larger ones. I know its not much but I thought it might help in a small way.

Maybe I'm sounding petty, I am willing to wait but I can not afford to work for free.

As soon as they get the fire under control and allow people back in I will be able to find out if they lost there home or not. Hopefully the fires will be under control soon and his house will be OK but I am doubtful.

Please let me know what you think

Be Safe

Tough call, if you did the work you are entitled to payment. I would assume this guy is insured. If that is the case, you will probably get paid although it may take a while.

Offer him a payment plan till he gets caught up, if he lost everything your not going to be at the top of his list for awhile, food, a place to live, clothing and his own business come first.

Another option, telling him how sorry you are to hear about his lost and offer to split the bill, half free, half paid for.

The free stuff would be a tax write off for you.

Or Business as usual with your ideas.

None of us work for free and none of us like waiting for month and month to be paid howerver this is not a normal thing for this guy, work with him and he will more then make it up to you in the future.

There was a mistake in reporting of the subdivisions that lost homes. My customers family and home are OK. But 30 homes did burn.

Money makes life easier true, but life is not about money. My earlier post may of sound like that but that was not the intention.
I was looking for a way to assist without putting us in a bad way.

I would not be worrying about bills etc. if my home was destroyed.
If I lost my home or my shop/office each would be devastating in there own way.

They have 200 firefighters and are bringing in 200 more. Hopefully they will be able to gain control safely and quickly.

Thank You

Glad everything worked out.

but if it had been my account and I did monthly cleaning for them I would have give that to them to rebuild their home.I do not look at something like that as in giving free work but as a helping hand that has been feeding some of my chickens.

There is alot of truth in what Ron said ""someone will pay it back to you some day. I believe that!!!!""

About 10 yrs ago we cleaned a exhaust system for a guy (new account) a large system $500 worth, later that week we found out that the guys brother needed a heart operation and someone had set up a fund for donations, we called him and donated the $500 to the fund, over the years in additional work for that same guy and in referrals from him I would guess we have made about $20,000.
Oh and they guy who needed the operation, he hangs out sometimes while we are working and nit picks everything. nice guy but can be a pain sometimes. LOL

I would of done the same as big-boy and Ron M >>>>>>>>
We lost our house 2.weeks before Christmas BAck in '93 b/c of fire .

It was not fun > but thank GOD we had cost replacement on our insurance........
If any of you guys dont have cost re-placement I hope you get it for your sake.
YOU better check your ins. policy and see what you have for coverage. BEFORE IT'S 2 LATE..................
