Why waste money on SH ?

Found this on a local page in Tampa. All this time I've been wasting money on SH. Who would have thought you could use a tool meant for the ground on a roof ? "You give love, a bad name" LOL. Had to share one :)

It is up to everyone to help try to educate the homeowner or customer about the dangers of using pressure on the roof, too bad their insurance company does not see those pictures, they might offer to cancel the insurance on the roofs.

Maybe if we could get the insurance companies involved, they could send out letters to the homeowners about not using pressure on the roofs or that will void their coverage?

Low pressure is the key to getting it cleaned properly, not voiding your insurance and keeping the hacks off your roof. The hacks do not care about you, your roof or your property, only about some fast cash!

2 guys on a roof can do it in less time ( if no tarps are used ) and then injector spray, the roof stays clean just as long.

The COGS is WAY less. NO risk to plants. <-------and those are the reasons people pressure clean. TILE roofs that is.

Oh , I don't pressure clean roofs. :)
Chem only. UNLESS there is way to many plants to worry about. ( again Tile roof )

Ok, I'll be the first to admit this, I'm guilty of this also. Back in the day before learning about Non Pressure Roof Cleaning I used to do the same thing. On most Roofs it was alot faster to Ds a little love and soap and then hit it with the surface cleaner. It didn't always get all the butts very well and you still had to clean them as well as all the caps with the wand but it did an ok job and was faster than using just the wand. I will never do that again since going to Non Pressure!!! C'om on guys, man up! How many others have done it as well. I bet we would all be surprised. I know of a few right now off the top of my head!

We did it that way for years, just on tile roofs..

We did too. But with a 8 gpm machine we have a hard time keeping the machine down. Never broke an arm on the machine. ( thats the 4 vs 8 difference)

Ive done it on flat and barrel tile (never shingle) it always cleaned the front lips fine for me.(suface cleaner) Always came clean and no complaints from the HO's. I will be getting a designated roof cleaning set up -asap-$ is the only issue and I am going to go with a delevan fatboy probably after the RT in AL i will make a decion then and will consult with BOB at PressureTek.

Back in the late 90's, when we were known as Action Power Wash down in Miami, FL. (good god, I'm dating myself as an old timer in this profession, LOL) and10 + years ago and as recently as 5 years ago we did a LOT of Tile roofs, and back then mainly flat white concrete tile, but also terra cotta barrell tile as well and also used to Down Stream the Love (SH) and surfactant and Surface Cleaner Technique.

We had several Diesel Fired Hot Water Pressure Cleaners from DELCO out of Ft. Worth, TX running at 5 @ 3000psi.

Using the Hot Water, with the surface Cleaner technique, it cleaned pretty well, actually, and after mastering how NOT to hit the tiles with the rotating tips and Learning how to wrestle the deck of the surface cleaner to where it stayed flat on the tile surface, it made for some SORE backs, abs and arms in those days.

But , you know what? It was what we knew at the time and got the job done ( the old Delco board was just starting to BUZZ about new roof cleaning methods back in the day and Chris Tucker, of Apple Roof Cleaning was one of those pioneers trying different alternative methods)

Back then, except for the occasional tile breaking (we had a clause in our agreement stating the HO may have to pay for tile repairs and we ALWAYS carried Roof Mastic and the BIG Tubes of Tile Roof Repair Caulking) as it was considered by many as the normal way to effectively clean tile roofs back in the day. (Glad we have since found a better, safer way to gently clean Asphalt Shingle and Tile Roofs )

There was and believe, still is, a company called ICCES down in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. who were also pioneers of the Low and No- Pressure Cleaning methods, as I remember, they turned me onto the concept of chemical cleaning by actually letting US use one of the 1st 15 GPM @ 100 psi rigs they built in 2001 using the low pressure rinse method with a product called Revive-All, a contractor only roof cleaning compound and Large capacity diaphragm pumps.

Now, as I have been re-branding the business up here in South Georgia, as Roof Clean USA over the course of the last couple of years, mainly ultra low or non-pressure roof cleaning is all we do, along with traditional pressure cleaning of many surfaces around the home and business.

Non-Pressure is the way to go for CLEANING roofing systems. It's safer and It WORKS.

And because the industry as a whole and most importantly, the HO and commercial property owner is more aware of the options available to them for safely contracting out roof cleaning to contractors we have had to evolve with the changes, methods and safe roof cleaning practices.

The industry has matured and grown up a lot in the last few years, and I, for one, am all for it.

You all ought to start a pool up. When ya get enough money up you then create a website first that truly explains this problem of surfacers on roofs. Then you take the majority of the money and use it to make a billboard for some the major highways. Have a pic of the surfacer on the roof with the big red circle and slash sign you know for like not smoking or what have you. On bottom just have the website. Should create quite a commotion and may even get media coverage...Really such hack stuff isn't going to stop unless action is taken... !!!
