I cant find anyone to give me a policy on workers comp. ??? Just wondering who other people use.

I have. He was the one that told me he couldn't find anyone... Also, about what are people paying? Just trying to figure out what im looking at.

Contact an independent agent. They write for many companies. A lot of companies don't want to write your WC unless they have your GL or other policies. Make a list of all your other insurance needs personal and business before you contact an independent agent. They will want to know what other policies they can quote. You need to dangle a carrot in front of them.

Also make sure they classify your business correctly. They are classed by risk. The wrong class can cost you a lot of money.

We deal directly with Ohio Bureau of Workmans Compansation. If your a BBB member they can help you enroll. I called and set everything up myself and my premium is only $30 a month. It's just me though and have no workers, carry just fr the reason of getting some bigger contracts with people that demand it.

Ditto.

I have seen hundreds and even thousand of dollars difference from one WC company to the next. My independent insurance guy always finds me many choices. Some insurance companies dont have everything. I remember I had a company years ago, they would cover my trailers but not cover my equipment, I said whats the use of having an insurance company that wont insure everything. I have a few carriers but one agent

Like David said you should be able to find a policy for your business if it has no employees for around $750 - $900. You the owner are not covered under that policy

Althou I remember a couple years back they actually stopped writing policies in my entire area for a few months.

Thanks for everyones responses. I dont have any employee's now but will come the first of the year. I however need the wc to even bid with some companies. I went to the state funded wc and was quoted about $1800 which I thought was rediculous... Maybe I need to find a new agent.

paychex tell them you are shopping around

You don't need to go through your agent to work with SCF. You can go direct. It really sounds like your agent was scamming you.

Is this common for all, many or a few states?

I will look into this if it is available here in Texas. Right now I am paying through a temp agency for the WC.

Thanks.

I don't know, but I do know that it is the biggest WC provider in Arizona.

Since workers comp is mandatory I believe most states have a fund for those that can't get it privately. It's called assigned risk or WC pool etc. The cost is usually more than going through a normal carrier. So it should be a last resort.
