Yep...me again..help me with the math

So trying to figure out ratios, dilutions etc with using bleach....

So for example lets say that your making a batch of applesauce with the 30 gal of 12.5% and 68 Gal of water together...what does that dilute the sodium hypochlorite to? Is that diluting to 6.25% since your essentially adding 2x the volume of water to the mix? Same thing with house washes etc? Is there some basic formula that can be used for this?

Or mainly can someone break down the math side of this to me? Either i had a longer day at work today than i thought or my mind just cannot process this information I am reading with my West Virginia edumication...or a little of both.

Thanks in advance fellas!

Hey now, easy on that WV stuff

I would keep it simple, dont worry about what the sh is getting diluted to. Most of the time we use 12%, our roof solution is mixed in a vertical 75 gallon tank to save space, but we rarely put more than 20 gallons of fresh sh in the tank, the rest is water and either gain dish soap or gain laundry detergent. After you do a few roofs you will develope an idea of how strong a mix you need in accordance with the severity of the roof. we also soft wash siding, We have another 75 gallon tank do house mix. that mix is usually about 2 to 3 gallons of sh and fill it up wth water and soap and what ever is on the house just melts away.

So you use 2 or 3 gals of sh in 75 gals of water to clean a house?

yep depending on the severity of the algae growth on the house, usually only fiil the tank up to about 50 to 60, never really need more than that, sometimes might have to put 4 to 5 gal in of sh but not very often, We use pauls twin pump system. works awsome, hit the high peaks to get the fascia and gutters, light rinse with a water hose, takes one guy about 30 to 40 min to do a average 2500 to 3500 sq ft home with vinyl.

Haha, I actually grew up in Barboursville/Huntington area...went to Cabell Midland so was just right down the road from ya!

I do have some guinea pig roofs with varying degrees of mold/fungus to work with, not trying to bastardize bleach or chlorine but I try to make sure that I understand about every aspect of mixes, solutions, do's and donts etc with just about anything i do, especially chemicals. I know the dilution ratios will be different between products but looking for a simple break down I can follow with the math so I can think about each application and make sure I wont cause any issues especially being a band new start-up in this area. I have contacts hand over fist that could lead to a lot of opportunities for myself and business partner so us looking bad at this point has to be avoided more than anything in my opinion. Most of what we are going after right now will be flat surface and house wash and eventually stepping into roof cleaning so most of the reason I ask is more related to house wash than anything else.

You say you can clean a 3500 sq ft home in 40 mins?

30 gallons water and 30 gallons of 12.5 sh would dilute it to 6.25 pct sh. Your example would dilute it to around 4 pct active sh.

lol yes , why is that so hard to believe, using that twin pump Rance your sucking straight from the tank, start at the bottom and fan it on then move to the top, hit the fascia, sof and gut with the stream tip, very rarely need a ladder unless there is some part thats just a little out of reach and then a step ladder will usually get it there. spray one side move to the next then move to the next, go back with the water hose for a quick rinse, the only time i need to get out my pressure washer is if the home has very low water pressure. I started out using about 5 to 10 gl of sh to about 60 gl of water with some gain, but i got curious and started putting less and less sh until it wasnt effective enough and ended up needing about 3 to 5 gl per 60 gl of water. Its affective. Gutters might need two or three applications to come clean and if they are real bad with oxidation and tiger stripes i have to break out the f13, now that adds a little time to the job but if everything goes smooth, 30 to 40 min for one guy to do it

I can understand that, I was DS chem before we got into roofs, bought pauls machine for roofs, and now I use it for just about everything but concrete or decks. How long you been in ga

obvious will have to get a dif setup for roofs...but for now just trying to get going to knock out the cost of all this equip, license, city permits etc. so bout to have no life between full time job and getting this going until we can go full time PW.

I have been in Ga for about 10 1/2 years now...your not related to a Josh gore that lived in Ona, Milton area are ya?

I don't think you're actually reducing the strength of the SH, just making it so less of it is used in the mix. 12.5% 1:1 or 12.5% 9:1, the SH is still 12.5%.

If your claim is correct, a 1:1 ratio would reduce 12.5% to 6.25% and a 3:1 (25% SH mix) would reduce the strenght to 3.125% which would be practically useless (imo).
