Buying a rig

Hey guys, I own a lawn care business and my uncle owns a pressure washing business. We are both firefighters full time so these are side jobs. I have worked with him before, so I know a little about the business. He is getting out of the business and I am thinking of buying his rig and taking over his accounts (about 15-20 with NO advertising this year). I don't have all the specs with me right now but here are the basics:

-Delco RK-24 G
with TS2021 General Pump, 5.6 GPM, 3000 PSI, 18 HP Briggs & Stratton
-Two hose reels, one with 100+ ft of industrial garden hose, one with at LEAST 100ft high pressure hose
-At least three regular wands and one 24ft extension wand
-Large assortment of nozzles, turbo nozzle
-20" or so surface cleaner
-325 gallon water tank
-Extension ladder and step ladder
-Road cones
-And other stuff I'm forgetting


He is selling it to me for $2500. The PW is older and the heat doesn't work but I'm pretty confidant I can fix it. Other then the age of the PW, I think it sounds like a good deal. I would have to buy my own trailer though which I can get for under $1k. Any advice? And if this is in the wrong forum, I apologize; feel free to move it. Thanks!:D
 
Depends on the accounts, how they are priced and how often.

Just for the equipment the price is high, but if they are good accounts then go for it.
 
15-20 of what type accounts?

If they are profitable, sounds like a decent deal.
 
Thanks for the super quick replys guys!! From what I understand, they are good accounts. Mostly residential exteriors and flat work. When I helped him a few years ago, we did a lot of commercial work (supermarkets, gas stations, and churches mostly) and they were impressed so I am hoping I can get those back with his help so I'm not buying just equipment, but a turn key business that I have experience in. I'm going to contact Delco on Monday and ask some questions about the PW. There is nothing on their site about it.

Ouch, is that only residential? If so, I'm sorry but for me they would have little to no value.

You can get 15-20 residential jobs with less then $100 worth of flyers, and just your personal contacts.

Thats kinda what I'm hoping. He is giving me the option (I may pay in full up front) to make payments since I have to buy a trailer too. I'm hoping I can get enough work to pay him off before winter. Each March, there is a very large home and garden show here and he used to set up a booth and get tons of work. I'm wanting to do the same with this and my mowing combined this coming year and hopefully make a lot of green.:D
 
daniel I still say great deal plus When selling your service you get to
Say ,,,in business 3-5 years instead of......i just started today in business
Plus its part time for you to grow into. Anytime you can buy a business for a couple thousand and has a good name it worth it. plus easy pay no brainer
 
Daniel, The Machine is only worth 1500.00 tops. With a trailer it would be worth more. The accounts ( 15-20 residential ) would only be serviced yearly. So look at the books and see the service record. If these were commercial accounts serviced quarterly it would be different. The accounts are basicly blue sky without a contract. At the very least I would get him to deduct the price of the repairs off the price. Why dont you get the trailer with it?

Thanks for the posts guys. I'm still debating it but leaning towards buying a new, smaller rig after the first of the year. And to answer the question of why I don't get the trailer.....he was in business with my other uncle (they are brothers) and one wanted out and the trailer will be given to him as part of the payment so he can haul 4-wheelers. Can anyone recommend a good unit that will fit in the back of my truck and won't cost an arm and a leg? Thanks for the advice!!
 
Looks like you still get a $150 freight allowance from Russ too until Sept 15th. I don't see how you can beat that deal. It will do anything you will need it to do on residential and light commercial service. Don't make the mistake I made and buy a $1,000 direct drive unit to save money. You'll end up dumping it ASAP.

Quit debating and go make some money.:D
