Not me. If they wanted the service to be performed, I would do it for pay, and then depending on how I felt I was treated, I would donate the money, or a portion of it, back to the shelter. That is just the way I prefer to establish the paper trail. And sometimes, those things, as bizarre as it may sound, are not Non profit entities. If they are claiming they are, ask for tehir 401-3-c paperwork. If they cannot produce it, they are not legally a non profit organization.

Would you hire a guy from a homeless shelter? I did. It hasn't been without problems, but he has been with me for 3 years, and is a valuable employee.

I spoke with Ron in depth about this issue, that is why I posted the poll. People have really mixed feelings about this. Now What about Habitat for Humanity - do you see that being different from a Homeless Shelter

Would you donate services to Habitat for Humanity but not to the Homeless Shelter?

I donated my time once, about 15 years ago. Never again. The people who were supposed to be putting in sweat equity were sitting around or doing next to nothing. I did not see how they were earning the right to that house. It was sickening to watch, because at that point in my life I would have given my right arm for a house. There was no one offering me any assistance. And there were plenty of times I could have used a little help just to get by. I had to earn everything I ever got through hard work and determination.
I will never donate to them again: money, time or services. There would have to be something tangible in it for me. Cash, exposure, publicity - something.

today while searching craigslist came across a listing for a guy that runs a animal shelter needing workers to care for the dogs. i sent response telling him i would deep clean his whole operation once or twice a month.
not to big on helping people so much, animals and children i would do anything for, I'm always trying to save stray dogs usually they run away they must think i am Korean or Chinese:p ??? . grown men and women i really have no pity for them..... i have been screwed so many times i should be in porn..........

I was eating at McDonalds yesterday.
I saw two homeless men, and I could sense they were hungry.
I went to them, seen they weren't drunk, and gave em 20 dollars.
I even gave em a ride to Wendy's.
A combo at Wendy;s is only 2.99 vs 5.55 at Mickey D's.

I KNOW the look of hunger, and what it is like to have nowhere to go, and how hard it is to "get back on your feet" after being down!

I would gladly volunteer my services for a REAL charity.
But, like Scott said, gotta be SURE it is legit.

Actually, I was kinda bummed out yesterday, for NO reason.
Business is great, almost record levels for this time of year.

I was just "down".

Helping someone less fortunate then me gave my life "purpose" again, and got ME out of ME.

Thank You Lord for giving me the opportunity to help someone less fortunate yesterday.
Amen.

There is a certain look to true hunger, and I often am very generous with this type of people. I guess, part of it is that so often organizations find a way to pilfer and skim money from all donations that it makes me sour. I prefer to give to organizations that have a large percentage of the money going to those I am trying to help.

I couldn’t agree more with Scott, united way CEO was once the highest paid CEO in America.

I have done many charity gigs and often have thought about this same idea for others.

I have teamed up with customers, I send out a letter twice a year asking customers if we can help a cause of there’s.

I think Russ’s idea could work and Scott like others may be more inclined to get involved.

Ok, here are my ideas for a pwi clean up.

We build a page or site with the contractors that help. We all do local gigs, the gigs are designed to help your community. The people in your neighborhood.

Boys & girls club, boyscouts, battered women & children organizations in your own back yard.

I truly believe you can feel good about these projects and also could benefit you and if it doesn’t you helped your own community.

Just my thoughts.

I HEAR Ya Scott!
I find for ME it is best to use my OWN judgement .
I know the difference between true hunger and despair, and an Alcoholic or Addict just wanting money to "continue the party".

like most flatwork guys I see my fair share of "the dark side" and it comes in all forms , I rarely help anyone out there but when I do its heartfelt and I am usually right and not being gotten over on ,watch out for lies and deceptions out there

Ron, I already do the EV boys and girls clubs.
