13hp motors honda imitation

I have a couple that I purchased at a company's closing. I've got 13 and 15 hp. $250 each.

$230.00

We have a few 13 HP's that are going for $230.00.

Great engine. We have tested one for well over 100 hours (Non-Stop) running a pump at 3500 PSI @ 4 GPM.

I would recommend this engine to anyone.

The story that I heard was this: (not sure how accurate it is but I did hear it from 3 different people so it might be).

Honda went to China to see about having the companies there make their engines to save a lot of money but only if the quality was there. They gave 3 companies the blueprints, instructions, etc... to get started.

Honda went back a while later that year and checked on the progress. Nothing would last an hour so they told them it was not acceptable and would come back. They came back but the engines would not last 100 hours so they left again. After a 3rd or 4th trip back they gave up and wanted the plans back and started thinking of another plan.

While the china plants had the plans, employees copied the blueprints and sold them to their friends, competitors and out of town companies.

Later on Honda found out about this and started the legal work to shut them down and sue the companies making the engines, kind of hard to do.

Now there are over 300 companies in china making the Honda clones and some are almost to the Honda quality.

Briggs&Stratton moved over there to make the stuff cheaper, that story was on Discovery channel about moving jobs overseas, they also showed a furniture company that moved most of it's operations there also.

From what I hear is that out of many, many brands out there some are good and from what you pay for them and how long you get out of them, it is not a bad deal.

The Honda parts and clone parts are mostly interchangeable but some parts wear out very fast or are substandard like the pull cord assembly, muffler and bolts, head bolt areas, and carburetor bolt areas, some of the guys I talked to just drill them out larger and tap them for larger bolts and they hold up ok.

I have a good friend that has had 8 or 10 of the Carrollstream engines and switched to the dealer on ebay, said that his subs switched because of their friends switching because of better pricing and better customer service and he is happier with that brand of clone.

I got one of those Carrollstream engines but they did not pack it good at all, it got here dented and I had to wait 2.5 or 3 months for replacement parts because of container delays from china or whatever B.S. they felt like saying at the time.

I will not buy from them again, too much B.S. to deal with.

I have heard of some of the other clone brands out there but I do not know of anyone that is using them or how well they hold up.

Remember as always.....You get what you pay for and sometimes pay for what you get. hahahahahahaha

Chris, you're real close on the origin of the engines. Honda went and contracted with manufacturers in China to build engines for them. They were given the tooling specs, etc. to build the engines. Basically, the factory OWNED the equipment to do the engines, so they could use it to make their own. Briggs manufacturing in China is quite different. Briggs owns the factory, all the tooling, designs, equipment, etc. So no Chinese has any rights to build, as they don't own the technology. B&S merely hires Chinese workers to work in their factory.

Kinda like Toyota in the US.

Thanks for the comment David, glad you enjoyed it. I enjoyed typing it hoping it would help someone and make someone happy, looks like I got my wish. hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Just an FYI about the Chinese engines, be it Huacen, ZongShen, Loncin, Lifan, etc., service support for these engines is spotty, if not non-existent. You must rely on the reseller of the engine for all service matters. Mechanically, they're just an engine, so any good small engine mechanic can repair them, but factory authorized service doesn't exist. I google searched at length for any and could find none.

Great point Russ. I know a couple guys that have had some problems and you are on your own. Replace the pull-cord assembly with the real Honda, it is better quality, stronger and will last many times longer.

Mufflers, go with the Honda along with the carburetor assembly too.

Besides these and the headbolt and carb and muffler bolt problems they are doing good, just be warned.

Kind of like going to those close-out sales at the convention centers, looks like great deals until you get home and most of the stuff is just junk. You are taking a chance.....Buyer beware.

Most shops can work on them, just use the Honda parts to fix it with.

I did not know that you sell the China clones, that is good to know.

Does anyone that sell them give them a warranty????

Just wondering.

I am under the impression that you are on your own.

Thanks Russ for the info.
