When you wash a algae covered roof with 50/50 SH/water does it just changed the color of the algae or does it actually release it from from the tile or shingle to be completely rinsed off?

It will release it from the tiles or shingles. You also need to have a soap though in your mix. I don't clean roofs normally but going 50/50 seems a bit on the strong side to me. Maybe its not though for cleaning roofs. I know some other guys that clean roofs all the time will likely chime in as well.

Depends on how hot the mix is. Strong SH requires less in the mix, naturally.

That said, we used hot SH and still mixed 50/50. It just guaranteed that we never had to remix. Have to be more careful with vegetation.

Jim, it does both actually. It kills the organism, allowing it to release, and also bleaches the color out of it.

What Russ said is correct. It changes the color of the algae, also kills the roots so that it can be released once it rains or is rinsed.
