Distributer Question

Hi again everyone!

I do not know if people can post a response to this type of question but I will ask anyway. If you can not post a response, please e-mail me personally and tell me what you think. I also wanted to post this question in this category because I wanted as many responses as possible!

I have been looking at many different manufacturers of powerwashing equipment and it seems as if Envirospec has the lowest prices out there of various items. Could someone tell me if the products they sell good quality. The price comparison between them and others is incredible, so I wanted to know if there were something to this.

Thank you,

Keith Richardson

Since I know that John does not post on this board I can respond without getting flamed ;-)

There is an old adage in business as well as life that says, "If it seems to good to be true, then it is."

If there is a significant difference in pricing between like components (not similar but like) then someone has made a mistake. In general, a local professional pressure washer dealer will be priced with his competition. Those prices are often geographically driven; New York City prices will be higher than those for Albany.

There are components that do similar jobs but ask any pressure washer service technician if they like seeing them used and they will often reply in the negative.

A Yugo and a Ferrari both use engines, doors, wheels and transmissions but the resale on one (as a percentage of purchase price) out strips the other by an enormous margin. It is easy to cut corners. It is difficult to choose the best balance between longevity and performance. In an ideal world we would get all three but it never happens, only two.

Remember that the local professional pressure washer dealer is also a local tax payer, school board supporter, athletic coach or sponsor. When money leaves your community it never returns. Investing in a local business keeps it in your town for all of you to use. In macro-economics it is proven that $1 spent locally generates a total of $7 in local spin off including possibly your business.

Oh, search elsewhere on this board for opinions regarding E**** and their Severe Duty machines.

Hope this helps? Cheers.

things to think about
1 price vs quality
2 who is going to work on your equipment after you buy it?
3 parts avail.
4 after buying, what type of support are you going to get.
5 shipping
6 are you comparing apples to apples?
What unit are you interested in? Why? What are you going to washing [mostly}?

There are a lot of things to consider when buying from Envirospec. Their prices are low, there are other places that have comparable prices so that should not be the sole determining factor. For what it is worth I have bought from Envirospec in the past, but currently have no plans to do so in the future. .

1. The reason they get parts so inexpensively isthat they are considered a manufacturer. The manufacturers get their parts a lot less expensively than the distributors usually do. They might be the exact same parts, a K-7 unloader is a K-7 unloader, etc, but the acquisition price for the distributor has a lot to do with it, along withthe volume discounts. Face it, they buy a ton more than most people.

2. When you buy from E-Spec, for warranty stuff you are on your own. They might get you a return authorization, but that is about all they will do for you.

3. If you need technical help, their people do not have a clue. They used to have one guy that could answer questions, but I could get more information on the BBS's more rapidly. They claim to have the best trained people, but you could not prove it by me.

4. Watch your shipping prices. Sure their prices for parts might be low, but usually, in my experience they mark up the shipping as well, sometimes 100-200%. I am sure that it was probably just a Mathematical error

5. I have not tried their chemicals, so I could not hope to respond to that. I have not found them to be that great a price advantage over anything else that is available. Remember that Chemicals are a large profit center for most distributors. There used to actually be some distributors that would give you a free machine as long as you agreed to use their chemicals.

6. They will change parts to stuff that you did not order that they claim is superior. This is the reason I will not buy from them in the future. They will call before they do it and claim it is a color change, or soemthing insignificant like that, but when the product gets to your office, or where ever, it is not even close, at least that is what happened to me. When they ended up doing this to me, it ended up costing me about $1200. I was not a happy camper, and was basically told tough luck. So my dollars happily go somewhere else.

These have been my experiences. You can take them for what they are worth.

If you want to really see everyones opinion on this subject do a search on board, I think there was 78 post on one thread about this subject...

I think Scott was right on the money with his post. I do believe that ESpec sells some decent quality items at a good price, and I will continue to purchase those. However, I have found others that have proved to me a higher level of technical competence - so unless the diff is not too signficant, I now buy from the other guys. I doubt I would ever purchase a major piece of eqp from them.
