Hot box fuel tank position

Just had a problem with a relatively new hot box fuel tank leaking, while waiting on a replacement I am running with a small 6 gallon marine tank on the floor of the flatbed truck. My guys are telling me that the burner is cutting off since I changed the tank out.

I have noticed both of our hot box fuel tanks are positioned slightly above the fuel pump stock from the manufacturer, with bottom feed lines.

Can the fuel pump on the burner pull fuel 'up' to it, or is that the reason why the tanks are above the fuel pump?

Where did you put the return and is the tank venting?

My tanks have always been under the burner and only problems I have have is when the fuel filter is full. Guys have pulled from the their truck fuel tanks before, so I doubt the height is your problem.

What was in the tank before?

Mine pull fuel fine. Same thing was happening to us the other day. I unhooked the fuel line at the burner and blew air through the line back into the tank. It fixed it. I'm guessing a piece of something was partially blocking the line at the tank or in the line. Worth a shot.

Thanks guys, this is a new, never used tank. I've not had a chance to tinker with it yet, they didn't report it until they were going out tonight.

I'll take a look in the morning, just wanted to rule out fuel pump draw as a problem!

yeah.. debris in the tank,
.. or tank is not venting,
.. or filter is partially plugged.

That is the same fuel pump that goes on a home heating furnace, and draws from an underground storage tank outside. It should pull any distance or height you need.

I carry one of those tiny air pumps for sports equipment with the raft attachment to blow out the fuel line - saves puckering up on the hose.

Steven the pumps should pull from pretty far away from the tank. I had my burners plumbed into the fuel lines on my old npr and never had any problem.

Thanks Tom and Greg... Found the problem, trash in the line.

Greg, did you not have a diesel tank mounted under the bed as well? I just wanted to rule out the 'big stuff' before the 'small stuff'! I could have just ran it and cracked the nut on the fuel line leading into burner assembly after the pump.
