Hot water system recommendation?

We are in the process of evaluating hot water pressure washer manufactures for a new powerwashing business. We intend to solicit bids for systems from Landa and Hotsy. I'm looking for recommendations on system features that will allow us to produce high quality results in a very efficient manner. Initially, we will have a residential focus (decks, flatwork, homes, roofs), with some dock and boat work.

My specific questions are:

1. What are the recommended GPM and pressure ratings for residential and light commercial work

2. What should I be aware of when selecting a heating option? I want to ensure that the unit we select can sustain 200F+ tempatures at the flow rate the pump is rated at.

3. Are there any concerns to be aware of when adding hose lengts in excess of 200-300 feet?

4. Is a $5000 budget for a system (not including tanks and trailer) realistic?

All responses will be greatly appreciated.

You want at least 4 gallons a min, I prefer 5 too 6.

Get a 120volt generator and not a 12-volt system.

Adding hose will make the pressure drop about 100psi every 100 feet.

I believe 5000.00 will get you what you’re looking for.

Just a thought, but you might want to consider the following:

Spend about $12-1500 for a beltdrive pressure washer with 3500-4000 psi and 4 gal per min or consider a used direct drive that you can probably find in your local version of the Trading Post.

Spend about $7- 800 for a used Landa hot water unit. They take older hot water pressure washers, disconnect the pump and motor, rebuild the heater, and sell them as "hot shots." Basically on demand hot water heaters. 200 deg is no prob. They have a Wayne burner (very good I understand) and a Landa label.

As I said, just my thoughts. It depends what you're going to be cleaning and whether you'll need hot water all the time. I do mostly home/building washing and only use cold water. I need the hot for REALLY bad driveways and greasy/oily surfaces.

Again, depending on where and what you'll be cleaning, 120 volt is the way to go. Watch the amps though. If you are going to use an outlet (rather than a generator) make sure you test to determine what ampereage your machine will draw. (Mine works fine in GFI outlets.)

Doing it this way has allowed me to "build-as-I-go". I add/upgrade equipment as I grow my business. As a matter of fact, when I started my business last year, I didn't even use a pressure washer...and the first one I bought was a 1750 psi from Sears!

Good luck, and remember, all the new equipment you buy now will be used equipment the first time you use it!

I would not recommend a hot box, and cold water machine. The way I feel about it is that it looks cheap and fly by nightish. I have to admit though that I did have a hot box at one time, and it worked fine. The reason that I would not go that way is because if it is not done properly it looks real hodge podge and fly by nightish. Something that you want to avoid in an industry like ours.

I have two machines from Delco with 12 volt burners. I have not had a problem with them. they have been fairly dependable, and easy to fix and keep in repair. I hear that the 120 volt machines are more reliable, but there are also more parts to break, in my opinion. That is my opinion. If you buy the Delco machine, you will not have so much capital in your business start up and you will also be able to afford some rudimentary recovery equipment.
