I had to shoot a pitbull today!

Put some cash up Scott pittbulls have very few bites in comparison to other dogs like jack russle terrier and other smaller breeds of dogs. However due to there jaw strength and power they do more damage therefore you hear way more about them.If you the research you will find i am right they do cause damage much more than other doggy bites.Heck like i said i got bit in the face by a lab i lost alot of blood i just counldnt imagine a child getting attacked like i did.I like animals but just like some people are to aggresive to be out in public they need to be in a cage somewhere.

Lab's bite more people a year then pitbulls. Just so we all know.

Haha! I dont beleive that.

Labs are Americas favorite dog. Its true I saw the poll on bing the other day.

I will say this though... A dog can smell fear. And they can smell a mean person too. Ive seen some nice dogs who would put certain people back in their cars.

Hal, I never said there weren't other dogs that were aggressive. I've owned German shepherds and Alaskan huskies, both very aggressive. And as much as I miss both of those dogs, I'm glad they are gone so that I can have guests children to my house without worry of dogs snapping at them.. I now have 3 dogs, 2 catahoulas and 1 ridgeback/basset hound mix.

Catahoulas aren't aggressive or mean by nature. They are somewhat territorial and protective of their handlers but not to the point of aggressiveness. Now those traits are for pure breeds, ours are mixed with weimaraners so they're territorialism is non existent (except when it comes to their food and each other. You could walk up and take their food, but if another dogs gets near it they bare teeth but won't bite).

Ive got 2 weiner dogs and a blue heeler. My Blue is pretty laid back unless you are another dog in her yard ( territorial ). The weiners hate UPS trucks and Fedex is next. It must be the sound or the brown uniform but they want to eat him every time they pull in the driveway.

Funny story. Dachshunds are hounds with fantastic nose. We bowhunt on out property. My Dachshund, Domino, has found 2 downed deer we lost while tracking. He would get on the sent trail and go right to the downed deer. He was hard to follow thru the underbrush unless you wanted to get down on all fours.

This could debate could go on forever but facts are facts and the main thing we bring out of this is as contractors we need to be safe and whether it be a pittbull or poodle we should all be safe when we put ourselves in enviroments in unfamiliar territory.

I have only been bit by Australian shepherds, twice. Usually because they wanted me to keep petting them. Personally, I don't trust pit bulls, because I think the odds of them biting are higher. Even if there are twice as many lab bites, they are four times as common as pits, thus less likely to bite.

Sorry Hal, but you are wrong. Ive done plenty of research on this and have this argument frequently. Usually it is with people such as yourself that let their emotions and personal relationships get in the way reality. Similar to the way Obama got elected.

Heres the breakdown of Pit Bulls VS the second most aggressive:

1. Pit Bull
Varieties included: Pit Bull, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American StaffordshireTerrier
Registered dogs (U.S.): 2,683
Child victims: 661
Adult victims: 519
Maimings: 819
Deaths: 159

2. Chow Chow
Registered dogs (U.S.): 1,592
Child victims: 35
Adult victims: 14
Maimings: 34
Deaths: 7

Theres 18x more attacks on Children, 37x more on Adults, and accounts for more than 22x more deaths.

I could keep going, but wont. Problem is when emotions are involved, facts dont matter. Im not saying one day YOUR dog will snap and kill one of your children or you, but I am saying that by owning a pitt bull you up your chances by 20-30 times and that can not be argued.

those sites are bull malarky. one of em has the pit as seventh after the chow chow, presa canario, shepard and dalmation (number one) i have been around pits my whole life never een bit been nervouse but never bit. been attaked by a shepard though
have you ever owned a pitull? seems to be a conspirisy http://youtu.be/PTgpZzh1ogk go here tell me if this cop should have killed this dog. he didnt have to but he was ignorant to the breed, oh man its a pitull it must be mean and want to bite me. the dog was not even looking at him when he shot it. i own two pits and you can not see an ounce of agression.

Steve, you can be ingorant to statistics and truth all you want.

No dog is dangerous or mean....until they are.
