This photo is a lousy picture of what each of them is doing. I also have two other cameras on the truck, one facing forward, and the other in the cab so I can see what, and listen, to what the driver is doing. These have been a great management tool that we use on a daily basis. This morning I actually watched one of my guys cleaning a bus shelter improperly, and was able to dispatch a lead to the problem child for retraining. IMG_0554[1].jpg

For what it is worth, every single employee is told about the cameras when they interview for the job. Their accepting it is considered a condition of employment. The cameras and GPS have saved a lot of jobs, and only cost a couple of people their jobs. One got fired for going 75 in a 45, and the other got fired for repeatedly skipping stops, and not cleaning the stops he stopped at properly.

I have eyes on other large accounts that might ruffle feathers. Problem is, I don't especially want to be locked into them when I retire. But I might have a son or three that might want to work in the business.

I went to a police radio provider. It is not cheap to do it the way I am doing it. All told, it was about $2500 a truck, then $35 a truck in airtime and maintenance fees. There is a DVR in the truck that records everything for the past 8 shifts on an SD card. If I need to, I can take it out and store it on my computer, or I can make a file and send it to someone.
As for how many guys I have caught, besides those I have listed, I had one guy yell at a person about their "Stupid Dog" out the window of the truck. I have had guys skip stops that I have been able to catch and verify. I have caught people speeding. I have caught them getting done early and hiding at a friends house, (That is really stupid because our policy is, you get done, you go home with the days pay) I have caught people out wandering around.

We have also had homeless people dance for us, we have seen them assault our guys, we have been able to get a picture of them as they were getting in the truck to steal the keys, (just the keys, not the truck). We have caught property owners that blew all their trash and debris on a stop as soon as our guy was done. We have seen people confront and get aggressive with our guys, and then call in when our guy did not back down the way the aggressor felt they should and we have had a lot of times when someone has called in with a false complaint.

This shows a lot about you Scott. You're not the over bearing-micro manager I thought when I first read the post. It's very smart to look after your business and make sure you get what you pay for. This is taking it a step further to protect what you've invested a great portion of your life into. Awesome.
 
It really has been to protect the employees, to provide training opportunities and has worked out that way. I think that anyone on these forums that has met me will verify that I am not the type to micro manage anyone, although I was a bit hesitant to post it, because some people would perceive that I was a control freak.
