Maintenace Costs

Do you guys budget in a monthly cost for maintenance?
I was thinking about using three dollars per hour per machine on every job. I based this on the cost to rent a cold machine per day at $75.00 per day. This would not be included in on bids but would come off the bottom line of completed jobs. I do all the repairs that I can.

Any input would be appreciated!

I run my machines really hard. That is a warning, so your experience may nto be the same.
Last year my maintenance expenses were about 5-6% of the gross revenue. That would include, all repairs, oil changes, etc. I also do all of my own repairs. If someone else was doing them for me, I would figure closer to 15-18%. I would rather keep the 10% in my pocket. OF course, this is just my experience.

As a percent of revenue our cost for equipment repairs/maintenance was about 8% of gross the past 12 months. This includes trucks, pumps, etc., office (computers etc.).

We do some work on our equipment but most is done at a vendors shop.

I look at PM (oil changes, etc.) a little differently than repair costs, but I am in the same ball park as Scott. However, I have a beat up old truck (on the one hand), but own only CW machines (on the other - my impression is that HW machines are a repair magnet). Rent HW occassionally - I hate coughing up the rent fee, but then I remind myself of the maintenance.
