Motocycle engines????

Has anyone tried to make a pressure washer using a motorcycle engine? The reason I ask, is because I have an engine that I could use, and I am thinking that I could run a 3 pump setup on it. But I would rather run around a 10 gpm, system. Just for kicks I suppose, but I was wondering if anyone else had tried using the motorcycle engine.
 
I'am not saying it can be done, but would be very difficult.

finding the right size pullys for the shaft , rpms , it would have to be an open gun!

it could definately be done,with a 100hp engine you could run three 10 gpm pumps,i dont see why you couldnt integrate unloaders into the arrangement,i would use a import inline 4 cyl engine or a vtwin motor.

the only problem would be the noise.
 
what kind of engine do you have?

ps i would be willing to help you fabricate this thing if interested,i have a full service machine shop on hand.
 
you know what would be great to use the transmission gearing to increase or decrease the flow and pressure... WHOAAAAAA.
 
Ok, the real problem as I see it is WATER.

You would need to mount that thing on an old firetruck or something.
 
actually, I do have a old water truck with a 2,000 gal tank on it. I have an engine out of a kawasaki zx11. And I have the transmission. I was thinking about controlling some flow through the transmission. I know this may turn out to be a fluke, but I really like to do this sort of thing, so it will at least be fun. And yes, I do plan on doing some fabricating on some things. Just to let you all know, I was a engine and gearbox mechanic in the navy, worked on MH 53 helicopters. So this sort of thing isn't real hard for me. Just using the old imagination.
 
So let me get this straight...you are talking about a water truck converted into a helecopter with an incorporated 3 pump pressure washer that runs at 10gpm and runs off of a motorcycle engine...if you could add remote control capabilities it could be a one man skyscraper cleaning machine...

I think you should go for it and video the whole process and send it in to Monster Garage and try to win a new Mac tool set.
 
I think this could work very well. One thing I might add, use a metric engine, honda, kawasaki or something watercooled. Hell, go for a 600cc or better. Throttle could vary the pressure also.

water cooled could last all day and never worry about over heating.. Stay away from the HD engine.

If your gonna use a motorcycle engine, go for the gusto, create your own "Monster Garage".

Can't wait to see how this develops.

I am really thinking this would really work. I talked to my local power washing dealer today, they build power washers, and he was really interested in this plan. So he has agreed to sit down with me and go over some plans to see how to make this work. We did decide that we would be better off to start smaller, since he would be willing to donate 2 pumps that are rated to 4000 psi, and 4.5 gpm. For this we will use a 600 cc water cooled engine. He is worried about mounting the engine, but I see this as the easy part. Just using some minor fabrication and a welder.
 
I don't know a whole lot about motorcycles, but I do know that hte air cooled engines on our machines need a fan to keep them cool. I think htat the motorcycles are more efficient cooling, but they still rely on air movement to cool them down. You might need to put some kind of fan on there to make it cool properly.
