Newbie here, question about machine purchase

You are complaining that a $400 pump, that is your livelihood is only lasting 4000 hours? For most of those in the pressure washing business, that is close to 4 years. 2000 hours is 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and 50 weeks out of the year. I may be naive, but .10 an hour for pump operation, plus packings and repairs, which may or may not be part of your equation, seems like a valid cost.

Now I have a question for you. How long have you been in business, because it appears that you have been in a business for a minimum of 15 or 16 years, full time. Is that true?

Another thought, for what the original poster is doing, I have to agree with Chris. You have been in business for a year now, you know whether or not your business is going to be an ongoing economic concern. If it is going to be continuing, it is time to step and make it fly. However, if you only have $800, and you have been making sufficient money to support your business, you might want to reconsider your financial model.
Now to dumb that down. You have been in business a year, and don't have cash for a new machine saved? You need to learn how to manage your money. Not to worry. That is lesson we have all had to learn. It is just time to step it up.

Well said, that about sums it up!

$300 for the engine $300 for the pump. So far 10 months, 5 days a week. I think Im the only one that has actually got what he paid for.

Thats a nice setup, and a great deal on the motor and pump. I cant find a Cat pump for less then $300.
Why do you have 2 water inputs out of curiosity?

I've found a "john deere", i.e. -- Troy-Bilt, with a Honda GX 390 and Annovi Reverberi pump I've seen on the Mi-T-M. Price is $999, but Lowe's had a 10% off plus my neighbor got it for me using his discount, so the total $865. I searched the web and was hard-pressed to find the ovc GX 390 for less than $760 -- just for the motor!
It just seems that for most housepainting applications, I simply don't need the power. However, often after I prep the house for paint by washing it, a homeowner then adds on a drive or a walk, and the smaller ones don't fit the bill.

Keep the motor and get a new pump when ever you get a chance. I have the same one, and had the machine replaced twice already, pump doesnt last long. About 30-40 hrs. This one is still going now. Knock on wood.
Hope you have better luck with yours.

I got the pump here. At that time he was only asking 350 OBO, I offerd 300 and he took it.

Its not two supplies, the supply goes to a 3 way, the other hose is only about 3 foot long. I use it to fill my chem bucket, rinse stuff off etc.

The air QD you see is to blow it out to keep from freezing, thats not on there no more.

It doesnt have the unloader on it any more either. Replaced with a K7.

Oh, I only run HOT water through it.

Awesome;)

You have your equipment mounted on the back of your truck with the tail gate down? Thats what it looks like.

Roger is that one of the chinese honda knock off motors?

I have heard that they are just as good as a honda but half the price.I have been considering buying one.

That is definately a chinese engine. I have two of them. They work great. Dont be afraid to buy one. The air cleaners were cheap and broken right out of the box but I've got some serious time on both of mine and no problems whatsoever, in fact, maybe a little easier to start and seem to be quieter than a honda as well. The case bolts were not tight enough on one of them and it caused the oil to leak through the gasket, and the oil dipstick was broke or didnt screw in right on both of them. Get past all that, they run great. Also, never leave the fuel turned on when not in use, it will fill the engine with gas.

I usually get about 1000 hours before I have to repack. I have one machine that I have had for three years now, and is used constantly, that has never been repacked. If I had to guess, it probably has at least 2500 hours on it, at this point.

Well I put the pressure gauge in-between the 200' hose and the gun and with the gun closed, it is reading 3100psi and when you pull the trigger with a 15 degree nozzle, the gauge is reading 2200psi.

This is a 5.6gpm 3000psi Hot water rig by Hotsy.

Not sure why the pressure is low, maybe time for packings after 5 years?

I know I have at least 1500 hours but more like over 2000 hours on the machine so maybe it is time?

Thanks.

You coming to the Beach?

OK, I'm confused as hell. I originally posted this months ago, and now Ron is asking about the beach. I plan to go to the beach, but what am I missing on this board? How can I tell which poss are new and which are archived? In my spare time, I read the archived posts on this board. I have spent countless hours reading thousands of posts, trying to learn. This morning I came across my original post, from maybe november 2008, and here it is September 2009.
If anyone's interested the Honda GX 390 has been a workhorse; I've washed maybe thirty houses without a hiccup (laugh if you want big guys, my primiary business is housepainting) and I've added a 100' hose with no noticable loss in pressure.
Finally, I'm registered for the Myrtle beach event, but have a huge project this week that must be completed by Saturday so there's small chance I cannot attend. Hopefully, I will and will look forward to meeting you guys then.

If you look in the upper left of each post, you will see how long ago it was posted. To see all of the most recent posts, I have this link saved in my bookmarks... http://www.propowerwash.com/board/upload/index.php

Hopefully that helps.

Since you have not been here long enough to realize that threads get
re-visited and more often than not get side-tracked or go off-course.

Sometimes they are brought up to let others know that there is good info in the older posts, all they have to do is use the search button.

Not sure why Ron brought it up but you just never know.
