Shoulder injury

I was wondering how many of us have had shoulder injury's from pressure washing?
My right shoulder starting to bother me around the first of October, by Oct. 15th it hurt all the time. So I went to a orthopedic doctor ( recommended by my primary care doc) he thought it might be a muscle strain and prescribed muscle relaxers and pain meds. After a week I went back and told him the pain was worse, he said he sees this kind of injury 4-5 times a week and to go home and stop taking the meds he gave me a week earlier. He said to rest for a month and the pain should go away.
After another week of pain I started getting bad headaches, so my wife checked my blood pressure and it was 164/110. Now off to the primary doctor who prescribes high blood pressure meds.
Still in pain Friends recommend a orthopedic doctor about an hour away in Jacksonville. Call and get an appointment a week later, he has me move my arm in different directions till he moves it up and to my back. I almost passed out, in less than five minutes he diagnosed a torn labrum/labral. He gave me a injection of litecane and cortisone into the shoulder joint, within a couple of hours all the pain was gone.
Now off for a contrasting MRI, they inject dye in to the shoulder joint than do the MRI. He was right, a torn labrum/labral also called a SLAP tear(no my wife did not slap me).
This Wednesday I will be having arthroscopic surgery, about a 1 1/2 hour surgery if the rotator cuff is OK.
I have been told it will be a 12 week recovery by one nurse and a six month recovery by a different nurse.

I have been pressure washing for 11 years with no shoulder or arm problems, my doctor says any over the head arm movement is hard on your shoulders but pressure cleaning is really bad.

Has anyone else had shoulder injury's from pressure cleaning, and how long to recover from surgery?

I also recommend looking into short and long term disability insurance, no I don't have either. It looks like I'll be spending the money I saved to buy an Isuzu NPR on living expense's.
I hope to be back to work by March. I will be hiring a helper.
Sorry for the long post.

I hope ever one had a great thanksgiving, I know I have a lot to be thankful for!
Merry Christmas and Happy New year

I don't know of anyone else that has that problem. The sad part is that both nurses might be right. You might not be able to do anything for the 12 weeks and then be limited for the rest of the 6 months. Last surgery I had was like that. No strain allowed for 2 weeks (intial healing) and then limited for 4 weeks after that.

Hope everything goes well!

All I know is a friend of mine didn't listen and started using his arm before his PT and the rehab time was up and ended up having to get the surgery all over. It took him almost a year an a half to get back at it. Not sure if it was the same type of injury or not.

A major sports type medical facility that does a lot of this is the only place to go. On the positive side this may get you off the wand and out getting more business.

My shoulders are messed up too but more from previous injuries than pressure washing. I have found exercising to help especially push ups. Once the muscle was rebuilt it seemed to hold everything in place better and the pain went away. Of course this is a temporary fix I know eventually I will need surgery for them.

The shoulder thing is very common with electricians as they work over their heads a lot. A buddy of mine just had his shoulders replaced he's in his early 40's.

10-4 had both shoulders done last year!! Recovery was very painfull but it was worth it.

Mike,
I am having 2 MRI's tomorrow afternoon.
1 on the left shoulder.
1 on the neck.

I have already had RC tears and AC tears repaired on the right shoulder once.
nice scar to prove it, too. Complete re-build.
Not looking forward to this myself as I know that you are not either.
If it is more than a scopic surgery, the recovery time is quit a while.
Mine was 6 mos on the first shoulder. It shut my band down, it shut my job down, basically everything except Physical thereapy.
Not to mention the barage of meds.

Let's just hope and pray for the best. these are not fun surgeries by any means.

Sorry to hear that Mike. I hope you recover quick. Will keep ya in my prayers.

I hope that never happens to me. I have enough with back problems.

Man, we are all beat up around here.
Hope everyone gets their appendages back on track.
Good luck Mike.
Personally I can't wait to hear that "thump thump thump" of the MRI for an hour and a half. Such soothing sound.

Well that was no fun. Quit uncomfortable to be honest.
It's really not that easy to lay still for 2, 40 minute spreads in a tube.

I synched up the "chunk chunk chunk " sound to the song I had looping in my head.
Appropriate though..... Welcome to the Machine, by the Floyd.

Of course not being able to move is exactly when my nose starts itching.

Hope yours went well Mike.

My left shoulder is pretty much shot from an industrial accident when I was a kid. I've been through PT twice with it since but it's limited use and whenever it gets cold it feels like rusty nails are being driven into it.
Now I'm wearing out my right shoulder from using it all the time. Both knees are shot, too.

It ain't the years, it's the miles.
:)

The MRI wasn't to bad, I think it took 35 minutes. It was the dye they injected into my shoulder joint that really hurt, it took five times to get the needle into the joint!!

This is the medical group and doctor who is proforming the surgery today at 12:00 http://www.heekinortho.com/about/murphy.php

I will let you know how surgery went in a few days. Oh my first Physical thearpy appointment is this Friday at 11:00 am

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

Hey Mike hope all goes well, the first shoulder I had done was real bad !!! I had torn the muscle clean off and I was loaded with bone spur's as well. The pain after the shoulder block wore off was a 12 on a scale of 1-10. I am telling you this because Vicadin will do squat for the pain. They needed to give me a morphine drip for 3 days.

The second surgery I had was only 4 month later and that one was not torn as bad, and recovery was quick. I am not sure how severe yours is but shoulder and knee surgery are the most painfull recovery surgery there is.:yikes: Whatever you do make sure you go to all your physical therapy or it will never heal properly.....Good Luck....and speedy recovery !!

Good luck Mike, I'm right behind you with mine in a few weeks.

....and you got that right about the vicodin Nick.
The morphine drip is where it's at for the relief of pain.

.... or a Soma Coma.

I already know what to expect with the shoulder( from my previous shoulder surgery). It's the neck surgery I have never been through before.
Not really up for that one. But hey, it's only nerve damage right?

Today is the fifth day since surgery. Surgery went well, four anchors in my shoulder to reattach the labrum, they cleaned out a few bone spurs and repaired a small tear in the rotator cuff. I woke up in pretty bad pain, the nerve block didn't work as they had hoped. After an injection I didn't feel any thing or remember much.
PT on Friday was very pain-full when they moved my arm up to 90 deg.
They are predicting a 100% recovery with PT and exercise after 12 weeks.
Be careful and stay warm, it was 49 for a high today and may freeze tonight!

Hang in there Mike. You'll be back to 110% in no time. :)
