Strip decks? Must Read!!

We have our sample from Bob and also the sample Steve was kind enough to send last season. We want to get some lumber and put together a small test deck and apply various products and do a side by side. I'll share photos when it is done.

Whatever the results are, they will be shared openly and honestly.

Personally, I respect why Robert posted this thread here instead of on TGS. We appreciate his being considerate. Robert, we are just glad you have a tool you are comfortable with that you feel works well for you. THAT'S the main thing, being able to count on a product to work regardless of what it is.

My 2 cents.... Bob from pressuretek is a great guy, but as far as strippers go ( and I have tried alot of them) HD80 has never let me down.

I'm sure HD-80 it is a good product. But now there is something better. (isn't progress great!) I just wanted to share what I found. I know for a fact that F-18 will out preform HD-80 hands down. This has been field tested and by a chemist. So if all you guys want to keep using a descent chem. than stick with your HD-80. For those of you who want the best go with F-18. Lets face it HD-80 is good but it needs additives to compete with the F-18. Like hang time and now this super booster stuff that they have come up with. All these things add to the cost. If ya need to use the F-18 on verticals it doesn't need an additive. If you need a stronger mix alls ya do is add more F-18 and it desolves great. Look I admit I do push Bobs stuff but it's not just because I like him and trust his business practices. The F-18 (stripper), F-10 (Wood cleaner) and his F-13 (Fleet/House wash) are really good products. Alls I can say is try them you won't be dissapointed.

After all that, Why couldn't you have just said, " hey guys a friend of mine in the business has a new stripping product that I've used, and compared to HD-80, etc., etc. works a lot better. Call him up and he'll send a sample. I think all of the hate and discontent could have been avoided. I am fairly new to these boards, but as I see it we are all herre to promote the industry and help one another, educate each other and strive for the same common goal. Financial success! With that said, I have used Severe-Strip for decks that my competition would not touch and have no complaints. LOL

I had the opportunity to strip a 42 sectioned 6x8 fence with mildew and several coats of a semi transparent, probably TWP, but with a coat of something under it.

I used HD80, 2 measuing cups per 5 gallons; F-18, 1lb sample in 5 gallons; and RM 1gallon liquid in 4 gallons; 3 cups EFC38 in 5 gallons. The results I obtained were great with all three strippers, and the EFC38 removed the mildew, but not a strong enough mix to completely remove the pre-existing stain.

The strippers all performed to my expectations. I know that this was not a test to see which one could remove Cabots, Sikkens or CWF-UV the best. It was a test to see how the strengths I mixed would handle the fence. I could use all three and get the results I want. Would I use one stripper over the other? Not necessarily, I am still calculating the price per bucket. All three strippers work as reported by the manufactures. Will use all three again on a tougher stain, CWF-UV when I acquire all three again. The bottom line in using chemicals is choosing which one provides the results you want and at the price you can live with and the ease of obtaining the stripper. I would highly recommend all three and recommend you test for yourself if they perform like you want a stripper to.

I did not have a sample left over of severe strip and have used it. It does the job as stated by the manufacturer.

HD80 is awesome. Does all 3 products use the same chemical base. It seems that all these new products (not neccessary the ones in this thread) are basically the same as the old popular ones - just made stronger or a minor change in chemical content.

If theres something better (not as good, but better), then I want to try it. Which of the strippers are the least harmful to the contractor? Also, another thing to watch is how the stripper (although rinse very good) may effect the sealant being applied to the deck.

this stuff still around anyone using it?

Ron which one are you referring to? Both HD80 and F18 are still available and I use both. Not to mention Sunbrite's Severe Strip is good also. All three have purposes and are great products for the arsenal.
