Vinly Siding

I cleaned a grey vinly sided house today that had two of its sides faded. The siding is about 4 years old and part of the front and the whole right side is faded. This was faded before I cleaned it and the owners wanted to know if the siding might be bad.

Has anyone ever seen this type of problem?

I would think that 4 year old siding should not be faded. My biggest question would be was it washed before? Then, do they or anyone know what type of product was used to clean. If they haven't had it washed then they should be calling the contractor and the manufacturer. I would venture to say there should still be a warranty in place. Seeing has it is only on two sides and not the entire house I am guessing it probably isn't the chemical.

I've seen 3 yaer old vinyl siding faded from sun exposure on modular/manufactured homes. They use REALLY cheap stuff on these. Could the same type of siding be purchased and installed on a regular house, maybe?

It depends on the budget of the homeowner. The cheap stuff will fade quick and its really brittle as well. Ive seen siding fade after just 2 years or even a little less. Shutters are the worst. 150 degree + water and a good sodium mescilliate soap will help remove nearly all the oxidization. Make sure to apply some type of wax to the siding when finished.

I agree... it sounds like the homeowners skimped on the quality of the siding. Either that or the contractor was a bit on the shady side and just put cheap siding on.

Back to the old saying, you get exactly what you are willing to pay for. Seems as though everyone wants quality but not everyone wants to part with the money to actually get that quality.

Chaulk it up to cheap siding that's sun faded. I don't believe it's something you or the last washer is responsible for.

And they'll sure bitch when that lack of quality finally shows through. Pay a little more, get a little more. The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of a bargain has faded.
