What does everyone do in the winter?

Business has really slowed down for us here. It started on the 24th of Dec. and is still dead.
How about for you guys? I know in some places, like in Naples business actually picks up in the winter from all those snow brirds going down to their winter homes.
So what are you guys doing about it?

Same here. Been dead in the water for 6 weeks. Opportunities seen everywhere, but no one wants it done. "Call me when spring gets here."

Going to PWNA in Dallas next month to get trained and certified for kitchen exhaust... try to supplement my business.

And what do you guys up north do when temps drop to freezing or below? I'm postponing some exterior, flat, commercial work until temps are above freezing. Don't want the liability. How do "y'all" handle it?

Interesting. We don't get alot of calls for snow plowing in the southeast. I've got to find more ways to use my equipment, make the cash flow run both ways (instead of all outgoing) and feed the bulldog.

I see the need. There's dirt and grime everywhere. I realize the potential. That's why I made the investment and jumped in. And I'm trying to get my stuff together, i.e., maketing materials, networking, etc.

But at present, that bulldog's bite is puttin' the hurt on me!!

along the same topic,

spring here usually starts in March, when do you suggest I start knocking on doors? I was thinking about starting in February???

Things are slow here too...Not so much the weather (though it has been cooler here the past few weeks), but the holidays...No one spending money on things they can put off a month or two.

Been spending the past few weeks helping my former employer get through the end of year/first of the year crunch...Only making about 1/2 what I'd make washing, but it sure beats not making anything. Expecting things to pick up a bit in a few weeks.

Sometimes all you can do is play with some of the toys that you have:) Here is a picture of some of mind.

Durng the winter months truck fleets get a lot dirtier than in the summer.

We do much the same in the winter as in the summer. Fleets, flatwork, industrial, commercial, kitchen exhaust systems. Of course there are times (to cold) when the only thing that we can do is inside type work.

Going to look/bid on cleaning the interior overhead structure of a grocery store next week. This would be all inside work right when it will be very cold here in East-Central Illinois!

Some of our exhaust systems are totally inside so we try to schedule them during December and the 1st quarter of the year.

We just completed 13 days (kitchen exhaust systems) of inside work (it got down to 5 degrees the other day). We only had to work outside on one fan for about 2 hours. Sure glad I have enclosed equipment.

Here's another picture of it sittin in the driveway getting some air! We've had it in the family for almost 19 years!

Fun car, everybody should have an American Sports Car for a little while anyway!

My crewleader told me last year "Dave if you get rid of that little car just so you can put some more tractors in here, Your Crazy"!

I have sold one of them and have another one for sale. Wanna by a '37 Farmall F-20?

it is pretty cool but I don't know what I would do with it besides drive around and piss off my neighbors. that would be fun!

Dave,
Have ytou posted that on the tractor site? I do not know the I.P., but I know that they have a lot of old equipmetn for sale there.
I have to admit that restored tractors look fun.

I work on next years marketing plan, service equipment, & enjoy the rest.

Hello Scott,

Yes I have put it on an old tractor site. It is call Yesterdays Tractors. Here is their url http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/

If I don't sell it pretty soon I may give it to a local FFA chapter for a restoration project.

Sorry you guys aren't busy. This time last year, I would have agreed with you, but not this year. This is my 4th winter, and I've never been this busy in January.

The only days I am not working are those where the temp is too low - like today! If the temp is above 40, I'm working. Yesterday was 40 and very windy, but still worked. All residential, some roofs.

real happy for you john.Like the rest of you here in ohio the checkbook gets pretty empty this time of year.We are limited to weekends only & only if it is above 28. I just have flleets this time of year.Love to know how you get holmes & roofs in the winter, john. Anyway glad you have the work.
