What's this part?

Anyone know what this is? I was under my truck today doing some work. Saw this part bolted to the frame near the spare tire...

Tail light fluid evaporator canister. Thus the electrical wiring. The excess fluid travels down the wire and is evaporated in the canister. It keeps it out of your tail light lenses. Dont mess with it. Have it checked at the dealer, they will drain it if necessary.

Thats a tracking device. Appears to be CIA. Maybe FBI. Possibly NSA or ATF. Also similar to EPA tracking devices. Just dont tell anybody i told you about it !

You're right Vince, right now only California requires a backup camera and a little man with a bell yelling "backing up!" behind your rig.. But the other states should follow through. It's safety after all. :dance3:
 
Its a small air compressor designed to keep your spare tire inflated to the proper PSI at all times. The DOT randomly checks to make sure that all spares are properly inflated. This could save you from getting a ticket and it also helps to save on your car insurance.
 
I was actually in the Teamsters for 5 years William. I didn't drive around all night though. I was considered a 'working Teamster' I was a highway guardrail installer. Making the highways safer for everyone who drives on them. At 6'0 and only 135 lbs though I think the guardrail outweighed me though.

I agree with Tony though also, California is most likely the only state that requires them. I have seen guys get kicked off of jobs for not having them on their trucks here.

If you have a back up alarm on your truck then it should be working. Just like if you have 100 lights on your truck, CHP can cite you for having just 1 of those 100 lights not working.
 
Vince, I thought you were in Northern Ca. I just looked it up and you are in the heart of Socal. I've probably driven right past you a few dozen times over the past few years.

We used to go camping in the San Gabriel Mtns quite a bit until the "other culture" mentioned in the other thread started pulling in and parking so close we couldn't get in the truck door. (And sometimes simply parking in front of us so we couldn't get out.) :help:
