Are you your company's best pressure washer?

I was out working today. Four house washes, a driveway and a patio. I was done by 1:30 with an hour and a half drive time. It got me to thinking, if it was one of my guys they would have been back at the shop around four.

Without a doubt. Friday night, I went to work with a crew. At one of the locations I washed about 10,000 sq ft. Each of the guys that was working with me washed around half of what I did, in the same amount of time. They got a lot of training that night.

Its not so much that I can do more than my guys, cuz I can, but they seem to display far less common sense than me. They do very non-sensible things that translate into hemoraging time wasting call backs. Or doing a beatiful job and completing only 94% of the proposed work.

+1. There's a lot more to it than just spraying water.
Regardless no one is ever going to be as good as the owner. Especially me because I'm picky.

BY FAR! If I could clone my skills to my employees I would have 50% less stress on a day to day basis. It seems like no matter how much training they have they still lack common sense skills. But I will say this, I have a couple employees that are definitely as good as me, and have been working for me now for almost two years.

But I always challenge my employees and let them know I am twice as good as a pressure washer as them and I haven't sprayed one in MONTHS! haha

Every now and again I love to come out on some of the jobs with these guys for a little "ego deflation"...they are always amazed that the boss man is so good.

I'm with Ed, though. My biggest problem is with my very competent guys doing almost a perfect job....its the little things that hack the HO off...like forgetting to put back the doormat, or removing the tape from the locks. You know...The small crap that the HO immediately sees and then turns a very discriminating eye to the whole job looking for other things we might have missed.

+100 I feel the same way, I am very picky and particular.

As an owner we just have a completely different mindset. Time is money, employees think money is time on the clock. What irritates me is the completely stupid stuff. Clean a roof beautifully then not rinse windows good afterward from overspray. I had to travel 1.5 hours because they forgot to rinse the end windows at a shopping center. Everything else was perfect!!!! They left a job with less than 1500 sq ft of concrete left to do because the burner stopped working. They could have finished with cold and sprayed a little bleach!!

Just had a group talk this morning. The 3 biggest problems this month: stained driveways caused by not keeping them wet and failing to rinse the gutters out, rinsing the windows, and leaving bags on the gutters (full of sh mix). Ive paid for every mistake they made thus far. My solution: they can either go back on their own time, I will supply the truck, fuel, and equipment. If they don't do it, I will send another worker who will bill the worker who created the callback. The money source will come only from their privelaged 15% upsell commission fund, I will not deduct it from their regular pay. I spend and supply for all preventatives like plastics, plant wash, gutter canes, helpers, sprinklers, etc. There's absolutely no more excuses accepted.

Man thats it in a nutshell, I had a call about a center 3.5 hours away that the window sills were not rinsed on half the stores, it was huge and it by its self took all night. A 4k center, if they had taken the extra 15 min to make sure everything was done it would have been so much easier.
