Great News Buddy
Here is an update. Things took a weird turn on Thursday afternoon. I was scheduled for skin graft on Friday morning and Thursday evening I received a call from a Dr. at LSU Health Science Center in Shreveport. They saw the pictures on Facebook and did not agree with the skin graft. For those that don't know, LSUHSC has an incredible trauma and burn unit. My original Dr. said that it would take at least 3 weeks for me to see at Dr at LSU. They called me and I met them the next morning!!

Long story short, there is no skin graft surgery. Dr said that is a "last resort" option because there are many risks and also there are so many new treatments that are just as effective.

So now I am "debrading" twice a day and applying a new salve that was developed at the LSU burn center. It is called Scarlet Red and is for removing the dead skin and promoting the growth of new skin cells. Dr. says that I should be wearing a shoe (loosely) within 3 weeks!!!!

I want to thank all of you for your support and prayers. This has been a very trying time but the Lord has truly blessed me and my family. Thank you again!!

Really Great News Jeff....

I'm glad to hear from you today that things are going well
This is just a reminder that it only takes a second to cause some serious damage. I was washing/de-greasing a power unit mounted on an 18-wheeler trailer. Had the heat turned up and stepped on a hydraulic hose on the trailer. I looked back for a 1/2 second and sprayed my boot. I was wearing steel toe rubber boots and the water cut through the boot just behind the steel. Injected the steam into the boot. 2nd and 3rd degree burns on top and bottom of my foot.

Thanks for reminding me about this thread Ron! I ended up having to have skin graft surgery on June 21 because the burn was too deep to heal on its own. Then I got an infection under my toes where they grafted. Overall it has been an interesting time. I now have to wear a compression sock over the graft for at least another year. I am amazed at how much damage was done because of the burn. The Dr.'s have been great at explaining all of this. I have severe nerve and tendon damage through the top of my foot and down to through my toes. Because of the the tendon damage, 3 of my toes will not bend. Ever. The compression sock is supposed to help keep the swelling down and help circulation for healing. The minimum time for healing is one year and up to 2 years.

Please be careful out there guys. Remember, this is just a burn....the pressure never broke the skin. That would have been a much worse situation!!

Wish you the best of luck hope it heals faster than they say. You need any help with things while your down let me know. Sorry just seeing everything or would have offered help sooner. I learned about 5 years ago due to a broken ankle. Help as much as its a pain so times is priceless at others. We no longer work alone.

Good Reason to Wear Good Boots
