Wow that could have been a real problem if someone was on the receiving end of that. That $2,950.00 would seem like chump change then.

I should clarify, that it was only in its first hour of use that day, but had been put on end of dual lance the day before. So probably 4 total hours of use. The pictures dint really due it justice, it is actually in pretty good shape.

This part was taken by my insurance company and examined, they determined it to be a flaw in the manufacturing process. It was noted that at the time that we were using this QC the ambient temp was 40 and we were running the water hot, so metal expansion played a roll, either way, I have never seen anything like this, we change alot of fittings for alot of reasons, but never see metal fatigue like this.

We settled without insurance for this claim, but hurts either way.

It was MTM. Stainless has got to be stronger, I try to make that standard.

I am certainly going all stainless, talked to Lori not long ago and she gave me great prices, although even the stainless ones are made in China, it would be nice to find a manufacturer that is ISO 9001 certified, then these kind of things are extremely rare, 9001 certs can be obtained in any country, it is just a matter of choice if that comapny wants to adhere to the standards.

The same thing happened to me several years ago on the female QC connected to the gun. It broke exactly the same way.By the way it was China made stainless.Presently I'm using Hanson SS.

All SS is the way to go. If you run chems through them you are eating away at the metal lil by lil. I replace mine every 3-6 mo reguardless. I have about 10-15 old ones that are all beat up.Its a wear n tear item that is overlooked. if you ask me you got lucky

Regardless of the temperature differential the qc shouldnt have broke. Looks like pure metal fatigue. It shouldnt have happened. Why didnt you file it on the GL ? Isnt that what you pay premiums for? File it and let the Insurance Co subragate the liability.

Well I didn't think that the temp differential made any sense any way, but that was the insurance companies call.

I didn't file cause I just didn't want the insurance company messing with my client, I didn't want the dragging there feet and making it difficult for my customer.

This particular costumer is a real cash cow for me, I didn't trust the insurance companies. So I just paid it, had it installed in 2 days, and the customer was thrilled, and keeps sending me more high $$$$ work.

I only approached my insurance company cause they have an action to cause process, they do the research and the cause of the problem. No marks against me, just a choice to work with insurance company on this one.

Don't count on an ISO cert company to make a good product. ISO is nothing but a butt load of paperwork and documentation. You can still make a crappy product, you just have the proper paperwork documenting how you did it. IMO ISO was created by a bunch of consultants who wanted to generate a new repeat income stream.

MTM, made in china.
EXACTLY. Get Parker fitings, Made in USA less than 70 cents more and MUCH BETTER MADE. Since we went to Parkers we have had almost no O ring failures since the interior maching is so much better and the tolerances tighter that the O rings do not grab on burrs and other poor machinging obstructions.
Heck, just pick a female fitting up and push the collar down, it will go back smoothly once it is back spin it and it will not grab or bind at all try that witht the general or rebadged chineese garbage that most vendors sell and you will quickly see and feel the diffrence.

***********

ST SERIES QUICK COUPLINGS (PRESSURE WASHER)

PRESSURE RATING is 2,700 PSI for 3/8 brass couplers...steel is much higher though less resistant to chems.

Parker is the best out there. PW hoses are a secondary product line based on their primary product line, high pressure hydraulics. With a customer base like Catepillar, John Deere, Nasa..... Our highest pw requirements are not even close to their highest oil based hydraulics requirements.
