Delevan Help!

Wired my roof pump today...and nothing... I have a 715 cranking amps marine battery, 5850 delevan pump, a 30 amp inline fuse and a switch. I can't even get the pump to make a noise. It has to be the wiring. It's a brand new pump never been used. Take a look at the pics and see if any of you can help me out. I'm really curious about one positive wire that is connected from the motor back to the head of the pump. It came pre-connected and I left it the way it was. I used 12 ga 3 conductor wire... I can't find a detailed wiring diagram anywhere. Any help is much appreciated.

Check the fuse holder and make sure that there is a fuse in it, if there is a fuse there, make sure that it is good, I have bought some before that were made bad.

Check the switch with a continuity tester or a test light, that will tell you if it is good or not.

If you have a test light or volt meter, check for voltage before the fuse, after the fuse. Than before and after the switch The wire at the head of the pump goes from the pressure switch to the motor.
PS I am not a Delevan fan. They over heat way to easy, a surflow pump last a lot longer for me. Just my opinion!
 
Toss the switch. Remember in the feild simple is better. Get 2 aligator clips and crimp them on the end of the wires,Then connect it direct to the batt. chances are that if you already had a problem with it, it will happen again. and it will be at the worst time.
I wired mine direct because if it doesnt turn on its either the pump or the clips,the end.I hate to be hunting down where the faulty wire is. Why do you guys like the switch anyway? you still have to go back to the truck and flip the switch

All other questions have been answered but this one. WHY was this pump not tested before it left wherever it came from ? Back in my Shurflo Days, Delco actually tested each and every one before they were shipped. The best suprise is no suprise.
 
Chris, from what I read it there wasn't anything wrong with the pump, it was the switch he put in. I have had a switch on my fatboy for going on a year and a half with no problems. Nix the aligator clamps, loss of to many amps with those.
I am sorry, I must have missed that.
 
Yea, the pump was fine. It was the switch. Now I am really confused though. I put a new switch on and it still doesn't work... take the switch off and touch the wires together and it works just fine. I have no clue what is wrong with my switch selection. I heard that using alligator clips would decrease the amps and blow the fuse to often. I was following Bob's rec's on the setup but for some reason my switch sucks...or I don't know how to wire it...haha Anyone using a switch? If so what type? 1 pole, 2 pole, 12v 1 pole, interuption switch? I have wired many 12v products but never have I blended A/C and D/C switches... I'm pretty sure that is what Bob used though.
 
It is probably something simple that is being overlooked.

Did you check the fuse?

Are you running the Negative from the battery to the pump and the positive from the battery to the fuse to one side of the switch and a wire from the other side of the switch to the pump?

Post some more pictures, it might be something simple that is keeping it from working.
 
Buy the cheapest 99 cent single pole switch you can get at Home Depot. Run the hot wire straight from the pump to the battery. Use an inline fuse if you prefer, I do not. You have an amp loss with it. Cut your negative wire in half and run the end from the pump to one screw on one side of the switch. Run the other half of your negative wire from the battery to the other screw on the same side of the switch as the other wire. If this doesn't make sense call me. 1/2 hose is all you will ever need. Biggest thing is setting the flow/pressure switch. It should pump for no more than 5 seconds after you let off the trigger.
 
William What do you mean "pump for no more than 5 sec." just wondering. I run a fatboy with clips and never had a problem. 10ga wire all the way around. How bad is the loss for useing clips guys? thanks
 
William, switch on the ground side? That makes sense having the juice flow straight thru, is there any reason it's not standard?
 
After you close the hose and the pump runs for a moment, pressurizing the line, depends on how high the pressure switch is set.

It's not a 3 way switch, is it? You know, like you'd find at the top and bottom of a staircase. Does it say "off" and "on"?
