Well Brian and Russ, wanna know MY opinion on long term Chlorine damage ?
I have been cleaning roofs for over 15 years, and USED to use the mix pretty strong because I was doing lots of roofs, and din not want to have to go back.
Here is what I noticed, years later, on these roofs.
I have seen pretty bad granule loss, in comparison to roofs in the same street done with weaker mix
It may shock some here, but I am gonna come out and say it.
STRONG Chlorine solutions are NOT "harmless" as some think, in my experience.
That is WHY you notice me posting the Apple Sauce formula, and working on the new Mix.
I want to use THE weakest Chlorine solution I can that will still clean.
This is what I preach, use the weakest solution that will still clean.

Chris, what would the maximum strength for asphalt roof cleaning be? No more than say 40% to prevent granule loss?

What strength did you used to use that caused bad granule loss?

By the way, I tried the new Apple Cider. Works great! Faster than TSP. I see why you have to use a lot more ajax, because it's not as thick without the TSP.

I am going to try a combination of bleach, TSP, Alcohol, and ajax to see if I can cut it down to a 1:2 or 33% strength.

50 Percent is the MOST I have ever used on a shingle roof Mike.
And that was many, many years ago.
By all means experiment with the mix.
If you want, call me sometime.

Noobie

Willing to beta test product. I will be trying Apple sauce soon just finishing setting up the pump on the trailer.

Are people still using this and do you like it better than the SAUCE?
I like the Apple Cider, because it is easy to make.
It cleans a roof well, but it burns up the mix faster.
Not a problem for us, because we go through a lot of roof cleaning chemical quickly.
IF using the Apple Cider, mix only what you need for a week.
Or, for that day.

BTW, both Dawn, Ajax, and most any dish soap contains alcohol!
They eat your mix up, compared to just SH/Water.
Keep that in mind too ?

Lori, Did you get my thank you text friday?

Lori, I have a friend that is thinking of getting into the roof cleaning business, I told him about your company and the great products you sell.

I warned him about a guy out there trying to sell pumps and undercut everyone out there, you know who. I don't think that person posts here that much.

Russ, I dont want to tip my hand yet, but I am working on a roof cleaning mix that you will be able to walk away from with NO potential problems.

Thats right, blow and go, spray and go play, splash and dash, leave and never greive.

Like a Chlorine Cowboy ;)

How are you coming along with this roof cleaning mix ?

We are still field testing it, and waiting to see the lasting results after several years.

New Apple Sauce

I was under the mistaken assumption the Sodium Hypochlorite cleaned better at LOWER PH's.
This is incorrect http://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/sfj/58/8/465/_pdf
Cleaning is better at HIGH Ph, but Disinfection is better at lower ph's.
This does not really effect Apple Sauce, just MY understanding of WHY it works.
Apple Sauce is fixing to get improved anyway.
We have been testing something that might make Apple Sauce "obsolete"
This new sauce might or might not stay clean as long as Apple Sauce, but from alll feedback we are getting, it cleans as well, and most say better:eek:
It is a LOT easier to make, no more mixing powders of any kind.
I am interested in Beta Testers before we put it out there.
If you are a working roof cleaner, all you have to do is ask.
Even Local Competitors can participate :) , WTF

I would be willing to try. I don't like the powders either.

Amonyx LO is a chlorine stable surfactant.
It is liquid, and a LITTLE goes a long way!
Lori from Pressure Washer Products in florida has it.
Lots of the guys at RCIA are using it as well.
