Sore elbow

That kind of operation is usually expensive:):):):):) Talk to your doc, you have what is called tendonitis, an inflammed tendon. Releif, stop doing the pw thing for a week or two, which is impossible, so go ask for a anti inflammatory, Vioxx, or quick relief cortizone injection

Ahh, the advantage of living in Canada, cost for any surgery is not a consideration; we just get it if necessary.

But, any surgery is only 17% effective and hand surgeries like those for trigger finger or carpal tunnel syndrome (more on that later) have to be redone after an unfortunately short few years.

Again, taking Vioxx or NSAID's or cortisone injections do not address the underlying cause of the problem. They only mask the symptoms which will lead to greater problems down the road.

In order to determine tendonitis you must receive a resisted action physical assessment to locate which structures are affected. Add in a functional analysis of the aggravating conditions and you may be able to relieve or even eliminate the problem through specific stretching and strengthening exercises. You need to know which and why the tendon is inflammed before you treat it. Overuse is merely one cause, you can also have impact related tendonitis, undiagnosed bacterial infection, biomechanical defect, hereditary challenge and so on. Not as simple as it would seem on the surface.

Now back to syndromes. In medical nomenclature any condition that ends in syndrome means they know what it is when they see it but do not know the etiology nor the cure; I.E. AIDS, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and so on. Do not let a fancy title keep you from getting a proper assessment and care.

Very often it takes little on your part to reduce the pain. If you can do it without painful and caustic injections or drugs and their associated side effect then you are better off both financially and from a total health outlook.

Find a Chiropractor/Osteopath/Orthopaedist with a specialty in Sport Medicine and/or rehabilitation. Look for a Massage Therapist with a minimum of 2000 hours of training and instructionor Certified Athletic Therapist or an Occupational Therapist (they specialize in conditions of the upper limbs and torso).

In every case they should do a complete physical assessment and functional analysis. From this they can recommend job modifications and self-care that will help.

Hope this helps? Cheers.

Of course, you might have to wait just a bit to get what you need.

Okay, Now I am confused!!!

That's it, you have AIDS in your Elbow. Now what are you going to do?

Just like a pressure washing job. Don't expect a phone quote, or an internet guru to have all the answers. If you are lucky it will get you pointed in the right direction. All kidding aside, Michael probably does have the right idea about what is wrong with your elbow. I would listen to him. That is what I did when I had Elbow problems, about 3 years ago. Have not had a problem since then.

Hope this helps? Cheers.

I was just poking fun at Michael. There is no disrespect intended. I sure don't want anyone to get their panties in a bunch because of what I said.

elbow/finger pain

Hey guys,
I just ended a 7yr stint with a tire company.Lots of repetetive stress injuries.Tendonitis in the elbow being 1 of them.Cortozone is a quick fix, vioxx is great long term, but it's not the greatest thing for your liver long term.Stretching and building the muscles back up does the trick. The ortho doc wouldn't do surgery, said I was to young(35 at the time)he steered me into doing reverse wrist curls with a 2lb weight while sitting at home watching TV.30 slow reps every nite, took about 6 months but rarely flares up now.The trigger finger can be attributed to the elbow from what the ortho doc told me.
I was told I had Dupuytren also,it presented as a knot in the ball of my hand, below my middle finger.the vioxx helps all of it for me,but nothing works better than the stretching my ortho doc and therapist showed me.
PWing is a repetetive job, there are lots of stressed on muscles and tendons, take the time to have a therapist show you how to stretch you hands and wrists,in the long run it will save you a lot of pain.

Hello Everybody,

Thanks for the incredible info. I went to the doctor. He told me notto pressure wash for a month and tounderuse the arm. I have continued to work. I am a full time school teacher and part time pressure washer. I have developed some interesting ways to ease the load on my arm.

I cleaned a garage and barely touched the wand. I clamped the gun open. Then, I wadge the clampinto a belt. The pressure of the water keeps the wand in the air. I gently guide it with my 'good hand".

My arm is getting better and I am getting used to the pain.

Only time and common sense will answer how this chapterturns out.

Thanks for the debate.

I can now relate to this elbow problem. My right elbow has been killing me for over a month now. Its even sore to the touch. Not sure what I'm going to do about this now but its the second injury I had in the past 3 months powerwashing.

The other injury I got this year was throwing my jaw off its disc when I was powerwashing this estate for 3 straight long days. I was as usuall clenching my jaw to the point it felt like It popped off its disc and man did that hurt for over a month. Because of this I wore a mouth piece untill recently when the pain started to subside. My jaw still hurt a little but nothing like last month.

Now if I could just find time to make Doctor appointments....

After 3 years of pressure washing my helper and myself developed a sore elbow the same week. We wear the velcro straps around the forearm, and this seems to help. The problem has gotten better since I started downstreaming instead of lugging the x-jet pail around and carrying 5 gallon jugs around the house. My elbow really acts up if I do a few decks or roofs with in a week. I also think that we have just been plain overworked this spring. Too much work, not enough rest, and could probably use more veggies and fewer burgers. Fortunately we do a lot of window cleaning, so some weeks the old elbow gets a good rest. I may buy or make a "hose butler" that I saw on sunbrite's site, because when I do a lot of tugging on the hose my elbow will start to hurt.

ON YOUR WEBPAGE ... are you pressure washing a roof ?

nevermind I see you said it was lowered pressure ,we use garden hose rinse on ours

how do you apply your chems?

I need to update the roof cleaning pictures on my site. Right now I am using a surflo, but I plan to replace that with a Devlon (thanks to all the tips on this site). I can't imagine applying chemicals with a pump up sprayer ever again! As if you don't have enough to worry about up on the roof without trying not to let that pump up sprayer slide down. I have a dual lance, so I can ajust the pressure down very low. Do you get enough flow with just a garden hose? Maybe I'll try that next time.

HUMMMM.....cortizone injection, opperations, WD40, Not trying to sound like a smarta$$ but maybe.....exercise would do the trick. Sounds to me like most of you have whats better known as Tennis elbow. A common inflimation of the elbow from, as they call it, improper bending and twisting of the elbow. Tennis players get this quite often, hence the name. Proper excerising of the arm will not only eliminate the problem but stop it from reaccuring.

Cortizone Injections - Uh, my 2 most unfavorite words. I played softball and tennis all through college, so I am no stranger to cortizone injections.

You are right about the exercise. If I am on a job site I always stretch out before I work to...Nathan makes fun of me, but I will tell you that I have never been hurt on the job do to a muscle strain.

Let Nathan make fun. You already know from tennis that streaching helps the injuries stay away. He won't think it is so funny when his elbow eventually hurts and as you can see from other posts if you do this long enough as in tennis you will get tennis elbow. It's not a nice pain.

the back problems

The big thing i run into is my back, I am only 21 years old, If I pressure wash full night for 10 hours, My back feels it. Pressure washing does take alot out of your body if ur doing alot of hours, But its a great workout :)
