This is Why contractors Hate ME!!!!!

Death threats? Why, because they are ashamed that you called them out on the incorrect approach and landed a contract?

Renting? Has that been a profitable extension?

The guy was using Acid to wash or the concrete was just to new or poured sub-standard.

In any case we as professional have a responsibility to test areas to avoid this type of damage.

What is the wash contractor doing wrong?

I looks like to different pours of concrete, the pinker of the three appears softer.
His/her walk speed was to fast behind the SC
The pressure was to high
The tips may have been to aggressive for the surface (looks like a zero was used in another pic)

Are the above assumptions correct?....What else??

I still get death threats....lol

We got tag die Ron and staff on the side of building. Funny story caught a competitor trying to steal info off the dash of a service truck.

This is not a good way to remove gum. I hope he had insurance. I wonder if he is still in business?

It really doesn't look like there was ever any gum in this pic. It looks more like a REALLY bad batch of concrete. I zoomed into the pic, and i could clearly see cracks all around the missing concrete, and what looks to be "Gopher Holes" under the surface. Can't say that i've ever seen anything quite like that before.

Is this kind of damage caused by pressure alone, or a combination of too much pressure AND a really bad pour?

I had a job doing some post-construction cleanup on a large gas station about 5 years ago and it had a lot of those "gopher holes" that were appearing all over the place before I started cleaning anything.

There were 7 different colors of concrete pours on the property and permanent tire grind marks from the forklifts that dug into the newly poured concrete.

They had a guy out there with a pallet of cement bags that was mixing them in a wheel barrow to fill in the gopher holes before the gas station opened.

I asked the super about the colors and problems and all he would say is "Lowest Bidder" to everything. I knew he was frustrated and did not want to talk too much. It was a shame with all the problems they had with the contractor that built the property. Found out later on that the roof leaked, plumbing leaked and they had all kinds of electrical problems for many months after they opened. The manager told me that with bringing in other contractors to fix what the original contractor couldn't or wouldn't fix, it ended up costing more than the difference between the highest bidder and the lowest bidder. Wow.

Ok so how are you guys testing concrete before you go right in and wash the entire job?

Most of the time you can tell just by looking at it. Been doing this for a long time and most of the time I am correct.

Over time you can tell it is a weak pour by just looking at it but if I am not sure I will test it in an area out of sight with pressure and more pressure to see what it can handle so I know if it is weak or not.

I can usually tell if the concrete is really white and almost fluffy looking. The way I test is to hit a spot that is not easily seen with the wand and if it makes damage marks not clean ones you will have to be very carefull. Soo many people have high pressure cold water units and they try to get the gum and stains off with pressure. I find some good chems and heat will safely out clean high pressure any day. I also think people dont understand surface cleaners. they are SURFACE cleaners not etching machines. 2000psi and some 25 degree nozzles works just fine, especially if the surface is treated with chems first. its really easy to grab a cold water unit and throw it in the back of your car and call yourself a pw'er but it takes brains to equip yourself with the right stuff.
