How many of you are nervous when you walk in the door to sell your service?
I know I am. Ive tried rehearsing my sells pitch and I walk in and there is the receptionist. Now what? Well you dont want to sell your service to her she doesn't have any authority to do so. Ive learned that when I get out of the car and walk into a place be ready for anything. They could be busy then what do you say? Is there something you can do to help? What can you say that doesnt take there time but tells them wow this person is so patient as soon as I get done with this Im gonna take my time and go talk with them. Are they on the phone? If they are dont walk up to the desk while there on it sit down wait untill there done then when she approaches then talk with her. I try to be as calm as I can be when i go into a place If you go in there all nervous then your gonna say something that you think to yourself oh what a dork!
Im not a pro at selling my service, but this I do know because I would be really nervous. I try to let them talk as much as possible. Also if there card is there at the front on the receptionist's desk grab it!! Now you have their email maybe even their extension.

Gain Confidence and do what you fear most and you will control fear. If you walk in truly believe the service you sell it also goes a long way.

I'm no sharp tool by any means but I've been reading and studying and practicing. Once you do it enough it becomes second nature.

Good tips, it is tough cold call selling it takes quite a whiule to figure out what works best for you. I agree the most important thing is to go in calm, smiling, and friendly.

Just spend a few days in Phoenix with Ron and I'm sure he would willing to show you on how to do it. Whatever it is he charges for 1 on 1 sales training I'm sure it's well worth every penny of it.

I hightly reommend the book Steve Stephens wrote, "The Pressure Cleaning Bible" it'll help you immensely. There is a whole section on making cold calls and presentations. Well worth the money. I keep it on me at all times and read it at lunch, stop lights, and refer to it when I am even on a call. It is must have for anyone in the service industry.

First thing just remember they are just people like you. I have seen you talk with folks and socialize, just stop trying to sell and think of it as your getting to know them. Oh yeah the sales pitch will be different once you learn not everyone is the same. I'm not a beliver in one lines. My sales guys follow me and watch me, they all look for that as well. Tony your father-in law pulled one out when following me. Ask him I'm sure he is using it.

Relax and just be yourself, stop perhaps worrying about the judgement you will get. Tell people that your new at this aspect of the biz and ask them how you might improve. They love giving you advice. I ask people this all the time. They even criticize me, this tells me how to recontact this person properly.

I love sales and I know your going to do well. Try to have fun with it!!

Chris, don't think about it as "Cold Calling" think in terms that will put you more at ease. Go in thinking that you're about to talk to one of your "Best Friends" and you're going to explain to them what your services are.

Always look the other person in the eyes, if you flub up, just be honest and say "I'm sorry, I'm not a "Professional Salesman" but "I am a Professional Power Washer" and we would like the opportunity to provide you with our service etc........

Appearance is huge, smile always (even when you don't feel like it). Do something that will make them remember you, even if you get shot down.

IMO if you don't get nervous at least once in awhile you ain't human. Everyone gets nervous from time to time for one reason or another. ( For times like that I have meds... LOL) Like Ron said,,, Be yourself and just have fun with it. The things that can happen when you act yourself will sometimes amaze you and leaving you asking yourself, "Did I just Do That?"

Jill, (ok to call you Jill?)

I've had the opportunity to meet you, and your very
approachable, sincere, honest and above all caring.

Ever have an issue or just want to chat drop a line or call me.

You always have the butterflies to some degree but hell I still get them when I race bikes and I've been doing that for 20+ years.

Know what ya mean there... I raced with a guy for about 8 yrs straight and every single time he got on the gate he would lean over and pull his helmet up and then puke!!! But after he did that he was fine and usually ended up top 3...I guess some have it worse than others!! Lol

I just pop in the office. Ask for the person I am looking for. ALWAYS introduce myself to the person at the desk. Express I was just stopping in to introduce myself and our company to see if they would open to hear about our services. Always ask question about what they currently have in place. If they are not available, ask when they expect them in. May I have their information to schedule appointment. When I get back to my car. Right a brief discription of who I spoke with and who the name of the person that I need to speak with. Then I follow up. Also send a quick Thank you note. Schedule them out in my calander for a follow up. Persistance. Always try to follow the time line that I set with my getting back in contact. So they may see my persistance, follow through, building a report is key.

Everyone gets nervous. Even if they are down right rude or ugly don't take it personal that's on them. Do the shake off and keep going. Role play with a co worker on what you might say.

Hope that helps. Keep your energy up!

"You can't make the other fellow feel important in your presence if you secretly feel that he is a nobody."
Never have I felt more confident in ringing that doorbell!!!!!

There is some great advice here. I know what has helped me in the past has been listening to tapes/CDs/Podcasts of sales trainers in the car. They gave me some things to think about and approaches to use; but the good ones will also get you motivated. Try your local library, they probably have some. One of my all time favorites was Zig Zigler, but there are lots out there.
