Lets Talk Vac surface cleaner..

Here is where we stand .. I am going with otter hose.. It is aheavy rubber reinforced suction hose.. I am going to make a complete circle 1 1/2 in hose all the way around the surface Cleaner.. This time no slots in the hose but 1/4" holes at 2 inch intervals.. The hose will then be buffed flat on the bottom Then I will use Liquid nails or epoxy to anchor it to the surface cleaner.. Also probably going to come up from the front and rear with barbed T's

Ok I got the specs from rigid on my wet vac It is 187 cfm @ 51 in Water Lift .. So that where my problem is.. Plenty of cfm not enough lift.. I also contacted a company that is selling their tile cleaning equipment here in Jackson so I will probably buy it .. Not sure what all they have but I know its a carpet machine with a 14 inch tile/grout cleaner attachment and all.. But I am not giving up on my invention.. Imagine what would have happened if the wheel would have never been invented ????

I have been looking on ebay and they are selling carpet extractors /vacs really cheap also I have noticed a few that have a sqeege attachment in the front so you can walk around with the vac.. Most have 81 to 100 " of lift at about 100 to 125 cfm.. Not sure how this would work but probably better than my wet vac.. I also looked at grainger and they are very over priced on there wet vac heads for 55 gallon drums.. gonna do so more looking..

I have been looking at vacs that use an air compressor .. Some of these the static lift is like 180 inches plus.. This would work great .. But it seems to me if I bought a 55 gallon drum and there are supposdly no moving parts what would I do to convert a air compressor to a vac..

Don't know that answer to the static question..... as for the rubber around the antv3 have you thought about a commercial truck dealer? Use the rubber for the fan shroud. Or if you can get old conveyor belt from a mill or something, that would probably be even better.

Ok here we go I sold the Hospitol account .. I also picked up 3 more interior tile cleanings at the local mall.. The problem was the vac .. I found a carpet extractor / vac with 107 IWL and 180 cfm.. 2 stage vac motor.. I can tell a big difference.. I also found the 12 inch tile cleaning spinner fo 619.00 online.. But I did decide to ty my idea again .. The rubber hose idea looks like it will work .. It is 1 1/2 inches around the outside of the surface cleaner and it is removable.. I was also looking at the other surface cleaner vac models on the net and will probably be getting a real one before long .. I figure on making around 6000.00 profit this first run with the hosp. cleanings so this would way more than pay for the equipment.. Also I have one of the hospitols that has a contract on the vent hood cleanings , but the company doesnt do a very good job so they are also in the process of setting up an emergency vent hood cleaning and trying out my hood cleaning service.. So once again a super busy month..

I am back on this again .. I have got to invent my own model of this surface cleaner vac because the real ones cost to much dang money... I have an idea but its probably going to take about 3 months to build .. ( Money wise ) I got alot of expense right now.. I am not going to give up though.. As far as the wet vac part I am thinking using one of those floor squeege vac units... They usually have plenty of water lift.. Or maybe a 55 gallon drum with vac head.. I am going pawn shop hunting next week for a commercial vac..

I had a few hours yesterday to play with my vac surface cleaner idea.. I have made the inner vac shell out of fiberglass .. I used a trash can top as the mold .. Now when I have the time I need to go and pick my stainless steel outer shell up from the sheet metal shop.. I ordered my mosmatic swivel .. This will only be a 16 inch model .. But if this works we may have something here.. People always ask John why do you waste time building these things when you can just go out and buy one.. the answer is that I am an inventor , I have always been this way.. If it looks like it can be built cheaper , better , or faster I will give it a try.. Wouldn't it be a shame if no one ever improved on Henry Ford's design of the automobile >>>

Hedy John--God luck. Some people like yourself come up with some great idea's and they make Millions off of it. Tinkering is fun if you have the patients for it. I know I don't. I want the sucker to work now and to work right the first time out or I'll go ballistic on it:blink: That is why I buy other peoples inventions because I don't have that mindset.

Johnny B..
you've officially wasted enough time to easily pay for a complete system that works.
Your best chance at using a cheep vacuum with a surface cleaner is..
the Sirocco SC21v ..your cost $1695 (or so) from EnviroSpec.
For kitchens.. the 12" version #SC12v can be run with that "6.5hp shop-vac" you have,
..against a full 5gpm !
Our 115volt PEV2 can run 2 of 'em at 100ft in opposite directions !
The next time you have a potentially profitable Tile 'n Grout job..
spit the 5gpm to 2 12" SC's and go home early.. Eh?

Jerry,

I have heard the term "in opposite directions" before and alway mean to ask what exactly dose that mean, I run 200'-600' all the time sometimes in one direction sometimes in two. Is there a higher work load if you go in opposite directions?

And by the way, John I totaly understand why you would want to buy a peice of equipment already tested and complete, I am just now taking my vac surface cleaner apart for some maintaince and what not and I now fully see the engineering that goes into the surface cleaner, looks simple but is not at all.

Thanks,

Joe Crowder

Joe, I think that what Jerry is talking about is running 2 of the vacuum surface cleaners at the same time instead of just being able to run 1 only.

Then you can have one in each direction or both in the same area so 2 surface cleaners working at the same time.

Well I love this old thread .. I have learned a few things about cleaning tile and grout . Some people you make really happy and some people are not too happy when there grout comes out of the tile floor on about 60 percent of their tile,, So I have decided to stick to hood cleaning.. I have done a few floors with my set up and I have done a few using the 21 inch mosmatic surfacer and the sirocco vac unit that I guess belongs to my buddy.. The time difference is that the sirocco unit is way quicker , even though it does trip breakers every now and then... But when a customer calls for this service and I give them a price they are expecting a 20 year old floor to look like brand new and when this does not happen then they don't pay...Anyway I have the 12 inch Mytee and yep it works ok.. My 6.5 hp wet vac will barely get up 5 gpm but it does work..But this was a good thread and I still plan on building a bigger wet vac I just got so busy with the hood cleanings I have hade to slow up on the other stuff

The sirocco needs a 30 amp breaker to run off of most that you find will be the standard 20 amps and they will pop every time, I have one that I run off an 8000 watt generator with a 50 amp lock type breaker and 4 20 amp breakers for pump outs on the recovery tank and OWS. It wont even bog down at all like most will.

dont try to reinvent the wheel. IMO the work has been done by someone else, and you wasted $$ and time. it is fun to build on your own. I will be building one to but for other venues

That is a problem that I had with the Nikro dual vacuum head recovery system. It has 2 electric plugs that pull 13 amps each then the pump out needs 9 amps on that plug. Hard to find buildings with plugs somewhat close together but on different breakers.

I pulled the generator off the trailer because it only has 2 outlets at 20 amps each but has a 220 twist lock outlet but I don't have an adapter for it.

Home depot was selling a twistlock adapter that split the 220 into 4 outlets, 2 on each side of the electrical box on a 110 line. The cord was about 25' long which would be nice to keep the vacuum closer to the work if you had to.

With that adapter I could do what I wanted to but they sold out of those adapters and I can't find them anywhere.

Has anyone seen or know where they sell the twistlock adapter cords to split the 220volts into 2 lines of 110 volts for generators?

Thanks.
