Nigel, all I ever use is the Blue Dawn. I use it in all my Roof Cleaning AND House Wash mixes. I've never had a problem using it.

Depends on what kind of Roof your cleaning, how nasty it is whats the outside temp (aprox. Roof Temp) and it's pitch. Everyone is always so worried about measuring. I just dump it in and go to work. BUT....Typically in a 50/50 of 100 gals I'll throw in about a 38oz bottle. also, it does not break down the SH as quick as some think. I had aprox 30gal that was 4 days old a couple of weeks ago and when I took off the cap there was still smoke coming out of the top. I did 3 House Washings and Pool decks and Screen Enclosures with it.(DS'ing)
 
I just don't like the smell the blue dawn gives off. Kinda of a noxious odor. Not pleasant in my opinion.
 
Roof is done! :) I will post some pics in another thread. Btw, I used lemon Ajax ( a lot more than your suggestions), but didn't see any difference cling or foam wise.. I had some simple cherry left over. I threw a cup into the first 30 gal mix and the red color and cherry smell got swallowed by the chlorine in 5 mins :).. I used 4040 tip and never used the 0040 with fatboy and 1/2 300' hose. The pump worked like a champ.
I got my favorite feedback from the house owner - "WOW" after we finished. What I hated the most, was the little 35gal tank. Tomorrow, I am buying a 125gal one.

Thanks Scott, so which do you use?

I did a test in the kitchen with 6% Clorox and "blue" dawn, I notice the gas chamber type smell.

Nigel, you want gas chamber smell? Try using antibactirial Dawn. I will never ever, ever, ever, ever do that again. :thud:

Thats great. Glad it worked out for you.

The Ajax is fine, I like Dawn becuase like it works great for housewashing and removing cobwebs and such. Plus it hides the smell of chlorine better. So it just easier for me to use one soap for everything.

We call the mix "Jiz" so that would make it sound worse!!:dirol:

If you look on the label of the blue dawn it is called Ultra Dawn. On the package it says not to mix it with bleach. Apparently this is a different formulation of dawn than the other colors such as apple. I read in another post where the blue dawn contains ammonia.
 
I have seen the regular and ultra dawn, both in blue but the original is harder to find since most brands are coming out with ultra, ultra concentrated, etc......

Sometimes you have to shop around to find what you need but when you find it, always remember or stock up so you don't run out.
