Well, here goes, if you plan to run one flatbed truck, own 2.
If you run 2, own 3. Always use Mobil One Synthetic Oil in your Motors. And finally, always remove the handguns from your employee's vehicles before you hand them their paychecks :thumbup2:

That last sentence is definitly a Florida statement...lol

Here is a tip I don't know if this one has been said yet to many post to read
but never give a price over the phone

AMEN BROTHER!!:grin-angelic:

That should be a RULE!!!

No prices over the phone unless its a competitor of course, then give him such a low number it makes him sweat....:haha:

And while we are on "rules"....here is a good rule for everyone....DO NOT TAKE ON A PROJECT THAT EITHER YOU CAN'T PRICE OR IS OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE. BETTER TO WASH ANOTHER DAY THEN GO BANKRUPT ON SOMETHING THAT YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN DOING IN THE FIRST PLACE. CAUSE ALL YOU DO IS MAKE THE INDUSTRY WEAKER BY DOING POOR WORK OR SHOWING THE CUSTOMER INCOMPETENCE, JUST BRINGS EVERYONE DOWN.

Wow, 99.9% of my quotes are over the phone. Who has time to go look at something?

I gotta agree with that one. The only ones I actually go look at are bigger commercial jobs from PM's etc...I do however (for residential) check out all their information online to obtain sq footage and verify that they own the property that they are looking for a quote on. It is only then that I call back with their figures. I never give them any #'s until I do all this and verify everything and it only takes me about 10 min per customer and saves a lot of hassles.

Watch out for these!! :banghead:

Interesting. Ive been in sales and marketing for about 28 years and maybe 2% quote over the phone. When I go to the site I can find more problems and offer more solutions than if I didn't. $$$
problems + solutions = $$$

Me too!
I give lots of quotes by phone.
I always hold the option to raise the price when I get there or add some additional work that hasn't been figured into the quote.
It has served me well.
Only a couple of times have I totally backed out from a job after I arrived on site.

Luckily I have never had to back out of doing a job but I have run into situations where there is a bit more to the job than I thought. 99% of the time I will discuss this with the H/O and we come to an agreeable term. I've been performing Roof Cleaning and Pressure Washing in Pinellas County Florida for a lot of years and I pretty much know what I'm dealing with when they give me their address. Bing satellite maps ( http://www.bing.com/maps/ ) are also a great tool for looking at the property before I call them back.

95% of my work is quoted over the phone with a 80% close rate. It is all about the marketing. They were ready to schedule when they called.

Another tip... Soap from bottom up.

I put never-seez on all my quick connects (especially between the sections of hose on the hose reel) and never have to bang them apart with a hammer any more. They stay functional! THANK THE LORD!!!

Ditto Spence, I watch some of my guys struggle with that for years until I used it once.

Ok, IF any of your pumps are made out of Polyproplyne, spray them with waterproof SPF 50 or more waterproof Sun Tan Lotion every so often. Plastics hate UV Rays
