Trailer Rebuild...And So It Begins

Well got some time to start tearing down the unit I bought in Fla. last year.

It's 5'1/2 x 12' there will be a 8 gpm hot skid up front, 8 gpm cold on the back, 4 Titan reels hanging from the rack (2 high psi, 1 roof, 1 fill) 525 gal tank, air gaped hydrant fill to tank, roof rig, 2...35gal chem tanks, 1... chem 50gal tank. Trailer brakes all the way around.

Had my good Friend & Great American "Dale Ray" replace some angle and channel iron, re-weld a few things, and should be finished tomorrow. Then it's off to be sand blasted and painted with epoxy primer and polyurethane PPG paint.

Kind of undecided on paint color, but it will be bright and eye catching for sure..................Any Color Suggestions??

Also if you were building this trailer, what else would you add to it??

since everyone seems to enjoy a cold one i would put a refrigerator on it first! i would also paint it pink.

looking good man,

rando

Rando has the right idea. I was thinking more on the lines of a Red Bull vending machine.

Paint it yellow and change your name to Ron!

That'll throw 'em for a loop, huh?

Guy, keep it simple ............. BLACK!

Naw Russ Man, I can't do it...Gots to stand out, Gots to be visible!!! Everybody has a black trailer (Nothing Wrong With That) but it's just not for me. If I market a different more professional service, how can I do that and look like every other jack leg out there???

No, flashy paint and chrome wheels don't make money......Or does it?

Russ, you fish. Let me ask you a question........Live Worm or Spinner Bait?

I will call it "Ron" Loud, puts on a good show, and makes a butt load of money. Hahahahah!!!!:):)

I hope you will have at least 5200 pound axles on that trailer, the regular 3500 pound axles will not be strong enough with that weight when you hit a pothole, you should give about 20% extra weight capacity for bumps and potholes.

I have bent 3 axles now and that is with about 20% additional weight capacity (not loaded up close to capacity) more or less.

Good point. I had one with dual 3500s. Lasted 6 months. To much weight on axles. Carrying pretty much same weight. Bent an axle and kept blowing tires. Never.again.

I just had new leaf springs, hardware and a new axle put on my trailer this week for the same reason. Over loaded. Also had to put new tires on cause they wore out on the inside from the bent axle. They put on 4 bar leaf springs instead of the 3 bar springs that it originally came with and man what a difference. Its like have a brand new trailer.

Guy, you should get cage put on like Larry's has over the tounge. It's a landscape trailer, but I when I saw Larry's when I was in Florida a couple weeks a go I thought it was great idea for PWing trailers for storage.

Nope 3500lbs x 2 for 7000lbs total. This was a concern until I started adding up the weight. Weight distribution is important also. This is our 4th trailer and we have never bent or damaged axles because of over weight. Anyone else that builds a trailer should take into account the weight issue, overloading could be Very dangerous.

Those 2 piece wheels might be a week link. I had one of those crack on me last year. It took forever to figure out why the tire kept going flat. The tire shop would dunk it in water but because it wasn't up to max psi or had no load on it the thing wasn't leaking. But when i would take it home the next day i would wake up to a flat tire.

I am one that likes it to shine. Chrome wheels are a cheap addition to making a trailer shine. I also make sure that I have a 10k gvw on my trailer. I even have custom wheels on my truck. I have a few trucks that are not set up that way, but they are purpose built, and only service one account. Because of how they are used, chrome looms worse.
But then, i I prefer new trucks, too. I dont want to hunt down a good used truck.every time I need a truck, just to save a few bucks. It is not worth the time and effort to save a few thousand up front.
Of course, I know I am in the minority, but I typically run a profit margin and profit, that make MBA's drool. Nothing better then having an MBA making 500k a year come to you for business advice.

I prefer new trucks versus used also. I don't buy them with chrome wheels, sunroofs, or blow up dolls so I can drive solo in the carpool lane. I don't care if it even has a CD player in it. My next truck next year will be another diesel though. I prefer to go a little over board on weight capabilities on trucks and trailers versus putting 6800 lbs on a truck or trailer that is rated for only 7000 lbs. I like to have room to play with the weights and not worry about it.

My 5' X 18' trailer has dual 7000 axles on it and I never have to worry about weight with it.

Ground effects! Hey what is epoxy primer, haven't heard of it but sound tough.

I like the adventure of finding a deal. I don't think that if I made the money you guys made I'd buy new. If I can't pay cash, I don't need it. 40-50 k for a truck, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

Yep, epoxy primer seals to the metal so it prevents moisture from getting to the metal. I've been told the only thing better is powder coating.
